Might be a stupid question, but does it matter that I have stopped wrapping Lauren already when she goes to bed? She is a hands above the head sleeper and she looks so comfy sleeping like that although I do have to put socks on her hands at night as they can get a bit chilly.
Is she still meant to be wrapped? She gets a bit frustrated with her hands pinned against herself?? ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

I think that the main reason that people wrap/swaddle babies is that some babies have a startle reflex which wakes them up. I leave Madisons arms out during the day but at night wrap both in - this is a big sleep cue for her long night sleep.
If Lauren is sleeping okay then i wouldn't worry but if she doesn't settle i would try wrapping firmly again. -------------

Hmm thats a good point, she does get that startle reflex, but it doesn't wake her, I think she likes sleeping too much to let that wake her up!

Like someone else mentioned its too do with the startle reflex, but also to do with the muscle tone in their chests. If their arms are up like that all the time it can make it harder to bring them into the midline later on when lying on their tummy propped up on their arms, and when in sitting.
Though in saying that, many many babies arent wrapped and dont have any issues with that, so if she is happy and sleeping fine I wouldnt worry about it.  ------------- Aimee Hannah 22/10/05 Greer 11/02/08 |

Yeah I'm with Nzpiper I stopped and then I went to the family centre for help the first thing they did was wrap him. They also said they don't like sleeping with their arms above their heads they just end up like that cos of the startle reflex.
Having said that if she is sleeping fine there is probably no need to worry. We were having day sleep problems. -------------

I stopped wrapping Hannah quite early on because she liked to suckle her fingers. Since she had outgrown the startle reflex (about 2-4 weeks I think, for her) there was no problems there.
Kryssi was wrapped until about 6mos I think. Briona stopped being wrapped fairly early but we reintroduced it a month later and then kept that up until about 9mos. Each baby to his/her own -------------  |

Some babies love being wrapped, some hate it...I can't get Bella to sleep during the day without tightly wrapping her  , yet she doesn't need it at night. Her cousin who is 2 months younger hates being wrapped and has done since birth, so you just have to go with what Lauren prefers... ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Paris liked her hands so i would wrap around shoulders etc to stop them coming free, but have it so her arms/hands were as if she had brought them up to her chin.. and looseish enough so she could suck her hands if she liked but not so loose she could get out. ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

Cooper doesn't like being wrapped anymore either, gets really frustrated with it.. so I brought a Peke Moe for him.. that way his arms are kind of free, he's not interested in his hands yet..they have winter and summer weight, so it might be something you could consider, it's not a wrap as such...

Astin hated being wrapped when he was a wee bubs and i cant remember how it came about but around 2 months i started wrapping him again to help him sleep better during the day and now he WONT sleep at all unless hes wrapped!!! seriously! - i have to carry wrap sheets with me EVERYWHERE!!

| Daniel hated being wrapped so I stopped but what I do do is when I tuck him in I make sure his hands are tucked under his sheet and hes holding his taggie. And I tuck him in tight. Most of the time his hands stay in there or he gets one hand out to suck on. |
