Topic: Yuck taste in my mouth
Posted By: ginger
Subject: Yuck taste in my mouth
Date Posted: 12 November 2007 at 8:14am
I've had an awful taste in my mouth for about 5 days and I just can't shake it. Some foods mask it for a bit, some foods taste revolting, and some foods make the after taste worse. I asked the husband, but apparently my breath doesn't stink any for it (the things a husband has to do ) it's just one of those things.

I'm not eating anything different, I'm not feeling unwell or anything, and I haven't changed anything such as toothpaste or whatever

Does anyone have any ideas as to what can cause a yuck taste on the mouth, or what food/drink/other can neutralise it a bit?

It's a not quite sour taste .. a bit of a cross between a coppery after taste, and what I imagine chewing on an iron bar would be like.

Drinking lots of water is suppose to help bad breath, don't know if it works for bad taste though.

I hate that taste I have no good ideas except that I found it way worse after a sleep because of the build up of saliva but that probably doesn't help at all. Mints and brushing teeth lots might help

I thought it might be a hormonal thing, so obviously if it is, there's not much to do except wait for my hormone levels to change. Bollocks.

Nah meow. It'd be one hell of a miracle if I was. AF is a few days late, so I think it must be hormone levels associated with that. It's the only thing I can put it down to, especially if it sounds like the taste some people get while pg.

I'm normally pretty regular, but it's not completely odd that it'd be a couple of days late. I had a 33 day cycle back in July which was one out of the box, I normally sit around 28 days. I've 27 days for the last few months, and this is day 30. So not extremely strange, if that makes sense.

Have you started on the Chinese herbs? You might not be taking them right now, but if you were earlier inthe month, perhaps they have thrown the horemones out of wack

No I haven't. I can't start them until AF is underway - so, of course, AF goes on holiday, doesn't it?

That's what I was thinking! Do you have some tests anywhere?
I've been following your posts and you deserve to get pregnant the most after all that you've been through!

I always get a funny metallic-y taste in my mouth pre a horrible period, the really nauseous, crampy, heavy ones.

Sorrysorrysorry! that's probably not what you wanted to hear Ginger!

Tests? Hehe. I haven't had tests for quite some time I'd rather buy myself morning tea

I'd be way too embarrassed at this stage to get pregnant having sex (plus I have a kick ass pre-period back ache)

Plus, Al said he'd kill me after forking out for flights AND $300 for the herbs!

To be honest....if you don't think it would get your hopes up too much, I'd test...just to rule it out. That would be a cool miracle!

That aside I don't know what else would cause it...have you had a dental check up recently?

Yeah, but over 2 years ago! Our situation has gotten quite a bit worse since then.

Neh, I'm not wasting money on tests.

Poop. The nurse only works at my doctors one afternoon a week for a smear! How blimmin useful! Argh. I HAVE to have the smear, and I know that the Dr at that practice doesn't do them because he's not very good at getting the cells required apparently

Ah well, here's hoping that AF holds off for another day and I can get in there tomorrow!

how frustrating for you ginger! hope you get into see her - how odd, WANTING a smear done. i always knew there was something suss about you

and poo to the odd taste in the mouth too. i would put my money on hormone changes too. (not preg changes, just messing with your head changes)

hope it goes away soon, or you find something to mask it! i have a yuck taste in my mouth too. but that is related to day 2 of the *biggest hangover in my life* that i am suffering through

All very well and good Kazzle - unless you have an orientation appointment for IVF, you have to allow time for processing, and the results of said smear MUST be submitted to the clinic before orientation or you forfeit your start date...

I'm assuming it's not hideously important to be mid-cycle as they haven't said anything about timing in relation to that. They've been really specific about everything else.

Still, AF lasts the better part of half my cycle, so by the time it's finished, I should be right!

never heard that Kaz, and last time I was late (pre jack), dr did a smear anyway since test was negative. Oh and very pre Jack days when I was very irregular I have gone and my period was just starting (ie I didn't even know about it), so they did a different type of test but a smear none the less (cost more but). Oh so for you ginger, that could work out too!

Hi Ginger, I also have what you are experiencing and I am certainly not pregnant as I currently have AF.  I actually saw the doctor about it and she mentioned reflux and got me started on Losec which has helped improve the yucky taste.  But I am also suspicous that its hormonal as like I mentioned earlier I have AF.

lol

and going to the dentist is probably a good idea, they can give you a good scale and polish and maybe even some mouth wash that will take away the taste....tho i have to say in the 3 years ive worked at the dentist ive never heard anyone complain of a metallic taste

goodluck whatever it is ....

I'd say a trip to the dentist will fix the taste - could be cracked filling or something

busymum - believe me, I was drowing it in water, but water seemed to make it a LOT worse

yummymummy - I don't have any fillings ...probably only because I haven't been to the dentist in ages, but still I am going to take myself off there - we have the luxury of possibly knowing exactly when we will be pregnant, and I want to have had full dental checks etc beforehand. My poor budget just doesn't feel like doing it now.

As it is, I woke up this morning, and the taste was completely gone! Wooppee!!

lol the amount of people we have that come in and say i dont need any fillings and the only way they "know" this is cos they havent been to the dentist for years because they havent had any pain or need to , therefore no fillings, then we do an xray and Hello! 7 fillings haha...when you can afford it, go to the dentist....7 years is a long time...
