| I know that at 6 months you're supposed to give solids after milk, but my bub fills up on milk then isn't interested in solids... what should I do? Should I just give the solids first? I tried it before and he had a great deal of solids, and breastmilk afterwards... is it okay as long as he's getting lots of breastmilk? |

try leaving it for about an hour after a milk feed before giving him solids, and he won't eat much at the start anyhow.. ------------- The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P |

mikey didn't start on solids until he was just over 6 and a half months and even then hardly ate anything. i've heard of babies that didn't start solids until they were 8 months! i wouldn't worry too much about it but it might be worth trying what annie said and leaving it for an hour or so before trying the solids.
at that age though it's still best to offer breast milk first. ------------- |

From about now you can start offering the other way around. Otherwise leave a time space in between. So milky drink and then play and then solids and then little play and then sleep... or similar routine. -------------  |

Its recommended to wait until 9 months before offering solids first. I agree with the others' suggestions, wait an hour or so, then offer the solids.
I wouldn't worry too much as long as bubs is getting lots of milk at this stage. My daughter wasn't interested in solids much until she hit about 9 months! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

I had to do the solids first with Josh (on dr's advice) as he is a huge milk lover and didn't want to eat solids. I'm sure if he still could he would live on milk alone. Try it if you want with just a little bit and see if it goes down. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

| My daughter is nearly 5 months and has been having a little bit of banana in the morning an hour or so after drinking milk and she loves it and been doing it for about 2 weeks, Plunket in Pakuranga said when I visited at the 3 month visit dont start her on solids till 6 months, I have moved to Drury and saw plunket yesterday and told her that I have been giving my girl banana and she said GREAT!!! - if she wants it do it - I find that strange to be told 2 different things anyway she is only getting it once a day and loves it. |

Have just found this post and it's a life saver!!! 
I thought my son was only one who hasn't really taken to solids. He loves breast milk and would feed forever if allowed!!!He's 8 months and hasn't realy grown to love solids yet 
Of course all my friends babies are eating a whole tin or more at each meal, plus snacks. Where as I'm lucky if he will get through 2 table spoons usually only 1 at each meal. Plunket push breast milk but there has got to be a way to encourage him to eat. He has started waking about 2 -4 times at night to feed  becauze he's hungry!!! I'm offering solids first and milk last but it's not working any ideas?????
