We found out a few weeks ago that we were pregnant again. Had a dating scan on Wednesday only to find out that there wasn't a heartbeat at 8w4d so not a viable pregnancy

Been booked in for a D&C this Wednesday. Will I have very much bleeding or is it more of a case by case thing? Does it take long to recover physically? Just wondering what to expect afterwards.

Thanks

Oh hun so sorry to hear this huge hugs xxx

Ive found its a case by case thing. Ive had two D&C's. The second I bled no more than a heavy period and was back at work 3 days later. While my body was up to it Im afraid my mind and heart too a little longer than 3 days though.

so sorry for your loss babe ... much love to you and your whanau xxx

Sounds like you have had lots of people replying to you so you know what to expect but just wanted to say Im sorry and hope everything goes ok. Are they going to do another scan? I thought that would have been pretty early to see a heart beat. I know when they thought the twins were to small and there was no heart beat they made me wait a week then did another scan to check there was no growth or heartbeat.

Thank you guys so much for all the hugs and the kind words. Its been a rough few days and taking it so much harder than I thought I would in this situation. I am so not looking forward to the D&C. Its kinda comforting to know that the little one is still in there IFKWIM

My2Angels - they said that they might do another scan but when they looked at the scan report they said there was no need. The radiologist said that a baby of that size should def have had a heartbeat.

Big hugs. Haven't been through the same thing but have had a D&C and I felt pretty much fine afterwards. The bleeding was like a heavy period but I can't recall how long it lasted for. I had little or no pain afterwards.

Leish, I'm so sorry that's the same thing that happened to me. I totally get your comment about feeling a little comfort at baby still being there as I knew that once I had the D&C it would all be real.   It really is all down to individual in terms of bleeding. I hope your body heals well and your heart heals in time. Hugs!

Big hugs to you Leish, sorry to hear your sad news.

As others have said, the bleeding depends on every individual as a different case. I was told to expect bleeding for 2 weeks, but I think it lasted about 2 days quite heavy then light bleeding for just under a week. You're not meant to wear tampons during this time either, so stock up on some pads.

I had really bad cramping 2 or 3 mornings in a row at about 3am and it took lots of panadols and hot water bottles (with a very kind DH) to work through that pain. I had my D&C on the Friday and went back to work the next Wednesday. (I had taken from the Tuesday before my D&C off though as I had had bleeding before my 12w u/s).

The operation itself is over and done with in about 15 minutes, for me it was waiting for a few hours before, then the time spent in recovery and in the ward while the anestetic wore off that took the whole day up!

Good luck, and sending lots of hugs your way!

big hugs to you:( i had mine done 5 days after i found out bubs had died at 8 weeks 2 days (supposed to be 12 week scan) and i had a lot of bleeding at hospital and then an injection to stop that and nothing after that.. i was physically ok a few days later..
definitely a case by case thing as others left hospital way before me.. i nearly had to stay the night but was fine when i got home.. mentally obviously a different story:(

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. It wasn't actually that bad yesterday. They said "you will start falling asleep now" and then I woke up and it was all done. I didn't have any pains and really minimal bleeding. I think it might be all finished already. The staff at Wellington Hospital were really wonderful too.

Glad everything went as well as possible Leish. I found the bleeding didn't last long afterwards, it was more just spotting for a couple of days then nothing.
