Totally random and silly question...
Do you shower when your kids arare awake(kids who are safe to be left semi-unsupervised for 5mins that is)? Elle's awake time has virtually doubled over night and I like my morning shower! ATM she is up for about 4 hours in the morning. Before this change she was up for 2 hours max so I had a shower and got ready to go out during her first nap. Now we often need to go out first thing so she doesn't get bored + due to developmental milestones etc I'm lucky if she naps for 20mins. She get's really mad with me if I take one but I think she should just get used to it. What do you do? ------------- Mummy to Gabrielle and Ashley |

Before I was working I showered either before B left for the or if I had no where to be in the morning I'd wait until she had a nap.
Can you keep her in the bathroom with her and give her some toys to play with? That was something else I would do with Maddie. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I normally shower in the morning when Ella is awake- she sits on her bouncer in the bathroom playing with her toys. I imagine though once she starts moving around it might be a different story.... ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

I have to shower when Sam is awake since our Ensuite backs onto her room. The shower is noisy and wakes her up!

I always just took Charlotte in with me- still do most mornings actually! I get my realxing 20 minute showers in the weekends :) ------------- Jen, Charlotte 7 & Kate 3

I either shower at his first nap, take him in with me or put him in his chair in the bathroom and let him play with some toys. Or if DH is on afternoons I shower whilst he looks after Spencer. -------------

I let mine run riot while I have a shower in the mornings. The house is safe for them and I'm only in the shower for a few minutes max. I can't take them in with me coz they try to climb in the shower and get all wet. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

I shower at 7.30ish every morning during the week, the BK's (big kids) look after him for me while I'm in there sometimes he'll still be asleep so I don't have any probs there at this stage. ------------- Mr Mellow (16) Miss Attitude (8) Destructa Kid (3)

| I shower in the morning, and try and do this when she has her first nap of the day. So after two hours I put her in her cot, i race for the shower and whip through it and try and blow dry my hair too. She only sleeps for 1/2 an hour that first session so everything is done double time! |

I would always shower during Ashleighs morning sleep but she is now only have one sleep at lunchtime so I normally leave her in the lounge with the door shut to the hallway and put a video on or leave her watching Blues Clues or something. She just potters around playing with her toys. Our house is a strange configuration and our bedroom and a 2nd lounge are upstairs, mezzanine style looking over the downstairs lounge so i just leave our ensuite door open and I can hear if anything untoward is going on down there. i bring jordis upstairs with me, and will put tv on so she can watch it while i shower if she is up, otherwise i shower when she is still in bed. just depends on how lazy i am ------------- Lyla - mum to Xanthe - my big 4 year old

Sometimes I get a shower brfore Rod goes to work, depends on if the terrors are up or not. Usually, I let the wiggles or disney playhouse babysit and Charlotte is sometimes back in bed, sometimes, exploring the house. Often, both kids are in the bathroom crying and whinging, and Mama needs herself a big whiskey to kickstart the day... ------------- The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P |

Usually try to do it before Hannah gets up, otherwise before Daniel goes to work. If I wait too long and its just me and Han home she causes all sorts of bathroom havoc - flushing the loo makes my shower cold, pulling the shower curtain out..... ------------- Aimee Hannah 22/10/05 Greer 11/02/08 |

I hate having morning showers so I have mine at about 10PM at night after Sam has gone to bed! Sometimes I have a quick one if his father or my mum is here and can watch him.
I have to watch him constantly now as he is rolling everywhere! |

I can't let DD run riot as we have no door on our laundry. If she's not napping (pretty random with morning naps these days!) I often time it for when she's having her toast for breakfast, drag the highchair into the bathroom and let her finish her breakfast while have a super quick shower. Keeps her in one place and happy - she's far too mobile to be kept happy with toys for long and would want to get in the water with me! ------------- Mum to two gorgeous girls! |

I used to strap Lesieli in the stroller or highchair with a toy or piece of toast and park it either in the bathroom or just out the door facing in. She did enjoy the toys and toast at first but then started to play up and grizzle. I just left her to grizze and she realised that she wasnt getting out till I was finished so got over that and I never had any problems. I have done it ocassionaly with Alize during the day but Im ok at night and on the weekends as the girls watch him ------------- http://lilypie.com">

If I have to have a shower in the morning I usually turn on Hi5! and give her some food which entertains her for about 10 minutes. When she comes and visits me in the shower afterwards I have some toys waiting for her to "Throw!" into the tub (our shower is over the tub) with me.

I have taken to having a shower at night with Xanda, instead of bathing him as I had a huge scare the other day. The outside doors were all shut, I was in the shower with the bathroom door open, and he kept coming and going, then I went and got dressed, leaving my bedroom door open. Xanda came in and was talking to me, then ran off down the hallway to the lounge, I heard him chatting away to himself. The next thing I know I can hear him talking outside, so peeked out my curtain and here he was walking in the gate holding some ladies hand. She had found him on the road!! I felt like the worst mother in the world.

OMG fairsk8 - how scary! Glad he was fine (don't beat yourself up!). I get up at 6:30 so I can shower as Ella is waking, and DH gets her up and in a clean nappy then feeds her brekkie all while I'm showering - I can't seem to do the 5-min shower thing, no matter how hard I try! I'm just waaayyyy too dozy in the mornings to rush it. ------------- Andie |
