My little boy had a bit of a flat spot on the back of his head. I've tried sleeping him in the wedge to put him more on his side, but he wriggles round and gets uncomfortable which wakes him up. He sleeps in Grobags so I'm not sure is a Safe T Sleep is the way to go and it's a expensive thing to but and try if it doesn't work. Any ideas?
Will it just get better now he's sitting up more? He's six months old now so he will be spending less time on his head anyway? |

what happens when you turn his head at night? it will get better as he is sitting up more but you do still need to keep an eye on it, especially a wee boy cos they dont have the long hair like girls to hid flat heads! my niece had a terrible flat head, it doesnt look very nice.
Not sure if a safety sleep would help, I know for us we just didnt the right at night, other way during the day thing and it worked. |

Spencer has a small flat spot as well but plunket and the doctor didn't seem to think it was big enough to worry about.
We have a safe T sleep that we use and he is a sleeping bag, if you did want to go down that route. We had a wedge as well but from really young he was able to just barge his way on to his back again. I would think if he is sitting up and spending less time on his head then that would probably do as good as job as getting him to sleep on his side. -------------

| Another thing to try is when he is lying down playing, put toys on the opposite side of the flat spot and make him spend more time on that side to balance things out a bit. |

| my boys both have flat spots on their heads! Bay has mild scoliosis which is why his is a flat funny shape so when i noticed Astins i asked plunket but Astins is normal baby flat head and itl come right when hes a bit older! |

Mercedes had a huge flat patch on one side of her head as a newborn, I suspect she was stuck lying that way in utero coz when she was born she would fight tooth and nail to sleep that way. Our plunket nurse recommended heaps of tummy time, which luckily Mercedes enjoyed, and she eventually started sleeping with her head on alternate sides of her own accord, and now her flat patch is barely even noticeable, it's rounded itself out nicely. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Briahna has a flat spot. I either turn her head when shes asleep or have her on her side with something infront and behind her so she has to sleep on that opposite side.
She is very stubborn though and favours the flat side!! I made the other side interesting for her but she still seems to go the other way and i dont want the flat part to get worse!! ------------- Melanie. Mum to Briahna Robyn, 3yrs |

Noah had a little bit of a flat spot on one side of his head (stubborn baby only ever slept on that side) but as he's gotten older and his head has just corrected itself.
