I've just been away for a family 'girls' weekend, and I've come home with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth (so to speak)....

At this weekend there was me, my mum, Joshie, two aunties, four cousins and my cousin's wee girl who is 13 months.

Well, quite frankly it was made VERY obvious that my cousin's wee girl was the favourite, and everyone except me and my mum took any opportunity to tell Joshie off. Everytime he tried to take a toy off the wee girl, or do anything that was in some way deemed rough or unfair he was growled at and had whatever it was he wanted given right back to the wee girl.

Ok, so my boy is very big, much bigger than her, and 5 months older, but he is STILL a baby too, and I feel really angry and sad too that he was treated in that way. I am not the type of parent who lets their child be unfair to others, or just ignore bad behaviour, but apart from one particular incident where he hurt her hand I didn't feel like he was in any way doing anything naughty or deserving of the constant telling off's he received.

I am feeling now like I don't want to speak to any of the others that were at this weekend for fear that I will yell at them for being complete meanies to my little boy.

Ok, rant over!

Awwww, big hugs Clare, poor you and poor Joshie! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your weekend away. We think Joshie is pretty damn cute, and I bet he's not half as much of a bully as that Mercedes of mine!

Thanks Em I am surprised at how upset I am feeling about it all. He's not a bully at all - just a lovely little boy who doesn't realise he is quite a bit bigger than most kids his age!

That sucks! Poor joshie being told off all the time

Did you not feel like you could have said something at the time to maybe make them back off a bit? (says she who will do anything to avoid confrontation!)

Aww Clare, that sucks!

It must've been so sad to see people, especially family members favouring the little girl and coming down so hard on Joshie!
Its not right for other people to tell your child off for you, especially if its a situation that doesn't require a growling at all!

I constantly see people favouring girls over boys in situations like that - it drives me nuts as it teaches girls to be either victims, whiners or manipulators!

poor Joshie - I would want to let them have it too!

awww I can totally understand.

It will also be Joshies age as my nephew is close in age and hes pretty rough and doesn't mean to but will take things off other kids and grab at them (not to hurt by all means) i understand and just sit a little closer to him or teach him whats good etc.. which I am sure you do as well. At their age they need to learn but not by being told off all the time aye. Also my nephew seems to be the favourite with Dh mother and so that bugs me a bit.
