I don't even know what your on about with the active topics but I do find the wee envelopes change back to already read before I have read them I just look at the times of last posts and figure out if I have read them or not

Yeah its still happening to me too. I've taken to clicking on 'Active Topics for the last XX hours' at least that way they don't disappear on me.

In defence of the tech guys, they know about it and I'm pretty sure it's not their fault, and they're probably trying to figure out what it is to fix it - must be a tricky one. Cut them some slack! It's happening to me all the time too, and is really annoying.
An update would be good??

Argh, watch me while I strangle myself! I feel your frustration! The tech team are working on it, and Angela is chasing them up as I type, so hopefully it will FINALLY be sorted once and for all.
Thank you so much for your ongoing patience while we sort out these errors, our sincere apologies for all the frustration!

Yeah I do the same as you now Mel... if its first thing in the morning I just select the last 12 hrs, that way I don't lose the active topics - which actually just happened to me now..and I'd only read one post..clicked back and they'd all gone...

Hello,
Tech Guy here. I have been trying to find the cause of this problem but have been unable to replicate it.
Can you please describe the steps you go through and what is not working as it should.
eg. login, click "active topics", topics since "20 November 2007 at 12:30pm" are displayed, view topic, post reply, click active topics, something wrong.
With a little more information I may be able to find what is not working as expected.

i already outlined what steps i take in the other thread re this..
but i do this..
eg. login, click "active topics", topics since "20 November 2007 at 12:30pm" are displayed, view topic, post reply,
then i use the recent topics button on my browser to go back to active topics and wa la - they arent there anymore...

Hi Beverage. I am auto logged in. So I generally go to the history on my browser select this website active topics. It will say active topics since 12.38am etc. I go look at a post then if I haven't posted I use the back button and if I have posted I click on the active topics button and sometimes it resets the time till just before I went into that topic. (happens whether using back button or clicking on active topics button).
It never happens if set to active topics in the last * hours.

I am auto logged in as well, I come in through the main site, click on the forums link on the right hand side.
Once on the main forum page I click active topics and they come up for however long it's been since I last visited the site (so, first thing in the morning about 9am it will be since 8.30pm the night before, for example).
I click on a thread/topic I want to read, have a nosey and sometimes post a reply, sometimes not (it doesn't seem to make any difference, but I'll pay more attention to see if there is a pattern here).
Then I click back on my browser (using IE) and instead of going back to the original active topics list from 8.30pm the night before, it has reset itself to 9.02am or whatever time I first clicked through from the original list. So all the topics from the past 12 hours have gone.

Thank you for the feedback.
Being able to replicate the problem consistently would be of great help.
I will see if my active topics reset after posting this reply...
EDIT:
No, posting that reply did not reset the date when I go to the active topics.
Just to clear up what appears to be happening. The active topics page defaults to show new posts/topics since last logging into the forum. This date is stored as a cookie on the user's computer. This date seems to be getting reset incorrectly for some users.
I cannot replicate this problem so if you could narrow down the action that causes the "last logged in" date to reset, I should be able to find what is going on

mine always resets if i go back (press the "back" button) after posting or just having a nosey! or if i click on active topics afterwards itl show up that there are no active topics.....not sure how else to explain it????

Beverage would knowing the Browser types help you?

i'm using internet explorer and am auto logged into OB....
i come in using the forums link off the homepage, click active topics, then it comes up with them all since i was last here. i read one, then mostly click the 'back' button and thats when the active topics list resets itself.
in my case, there's no difference whether i post or not, click 'back' or click 'active topics'.....it still rather randomly resets itself

I have a Mac and my browser is Safari. Mine also seems to happen whether using the back button or clicking on active topics and happens whether posting or snooping. It doesn't happen every time either which is why you would be having difficulty replicating it. Gotta love those intermittent problems

Browser types and versions could be useful.
So it is confirmed that it is not only from posting replies/topics that causes the date to be reset.
It definitely happens when just browsing the forums?

Yes if I go into a thread and just read and leave without posting it still sometimes happens. I'm using Safari 1.3.2 (312.6)

I just had it happen again.
I logged in, clicked on forums, then active topics. read about 3 topics and clicked the back button each time to get back to the active topics screen and then on the 3rd one the active topics had reset.
Oh, and I use firefox.
Hope this helps !

Thanks for the feedback
So far we've determined it is in fact an intermittent problem that is not browser dependant...

I've had this problem too and have also had posts that when I click to read them go to a white page that tells me cannot find server until I press refresh and then sometimes (but not always) it will open. Very tired of only being able to read half of what I want to.

I get this when I take too long on a thread. (I use FF.) I guess the computer thinks taking so long is about equal to having logged off or gone away from the computer for a while. So it updates the time from when to display active topics. I don't actually think it's a problem! I think it's the site being over-helpful If it happens to me I just flick the active topics to x amount of hours instead because that doesn't reset. No probs with that here.

I haven't had it happen to me all day since my last post. I think Busymum might have a point - I've been super quick on visits today.

setting it back to x amount of hours is fine, but if you haven't logged in for a couple of days, you have to go over the whole week

Ok, it did the disappearing posts for me so I set it back a few hours till when I was last on, but now I can't look at posts since (insert time/date here), it keeps defaulting to yesterday even when I click on a different time.

yeah iv been going back to 14 hours in the active topics but when i press the back button (after reading a thread) it switches back to last logg in which means theres only one thing showing in active topics!
And im also getting the white screen when threads are meant to appear then i have to press refresh!!

I havn't been told of this problem.
How often does it happen? Does it occur on some pages more than others?
