Subject: He went to hosp.....

In an ambulance We had just sang happy birthday and blown the candles out, he was eating some birthday cake when his eyes started to swell, then his cheeks started to swell and his lips doubled in size. His face became paralysed and he was droulling (sp?) and couldnt move his lips.......This all happened within minutes. the paramedics arrived and treated him and we were taken to hosp for more test. We were finally able to come home after 10pm.

What a way to end his first birthday. I am sooo greatful for the awesome service of the paramedics and I am just sooo thankful my wee boy is ok.

It is one of the most horrific thing I have ever seen in my life watching your baby getting so sick within minutes.

Big hugs to all the mums that have children with severe allergies!!

Hugest hugs Kels!! What a day for that to happen. How are you all feeling now? Any ideas what caused it? Hope you have recovered from the shock and feeling ok.

Im still in shock and feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing. I cannot express the terror I felt and the sinking of heart that I couldnt do anything to help. I felt so useless and so scared because I knew what was coming next and I knew I needed help immediately and time just felt sooooo slow waiting for the ambos.

Alize is a box of birds today, his eyes are swollen but def not to the extent last night and he is covered in a red rash that is very itchy, otherwise he is cruising around the house laughing and talking to his sisters.

I thought it was the fresh cream he had but talking with the Dr's it seems it is the egg white that is the culprit

Oh god that had me in tears! Its just the most awful feeling isn't it? So sorry you had to go through it, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

So do you know what the reaction was to?

I remember I spent the next 5 nights sleeping on Charlottes bedroom floor after her first big reaction

Thankyou everyone for all your kind words of support. He has been really sleepy all day and the Dr now thinks he has an allergy to the amoxiliclin he is taking for his tonsilitis. He said the egg white would defintely be the culprit for the major reaction but the awful rash that is covering him is caused by the Ab's so He is now needing to have phenegah tonight and changing of Ab's. I hated leaving him today to go to work as it is easy to think "what if" I have the day off tomorrow so that will give me sometime with him just to hang out and relax with each other.

AGAIN you guys rock and thankyou for caring

Oh Alize! Hope you are better today and they can figure it out so that it doesn't happen again for you all.
What an exciting birthday, he got a ride in the ambulance with the sirens blaring
Kels I think you deserve at least the day off, certainly with your feet up and relax with him

LOL CLaire I was saying that to him this morning when he woke up about just wanting to ride in the ambulance lol.

Roc its funny cos when I was a baby I had a severe reaction to penicillin and was in a coma for 4days, so none of my children will ever be having any of the cillin family.

Becks it will be one of those 21st stories thats for sure!

Holy cr*p that would've been scary, Kels.  I'm so glad he's ok and I hope you know for sure what he's allergic to soon.  Any tests arranged?  Great big hugs comin your way - it's tough (harder on the mum than the kid!) but do-able, and I thank god your wee man came out of it all OK.

kels - amoxicillen is of same family....you have to do special request to get none penicillen based one...Im allergic to all of the family of ABs with the same base - even those not called penicillen...vibramycin a few years back made me sooo sick it wasnt funny and now is off market as had similar base but without the warning....

Id say to any doc that he is to be treated as allergic until they can prove otherwise under full medical watch....

I soo hope he is doing ok today??? is he alright???

Ella sends BIG SLOPPY KISS (and ducks from jealous Sienna!)

It sounds like amoxicillin to me Kels for the culprit of the rash thats what happened to James today had to rush him to the Drs so no penicillin for him.

Glad to here Alize his better today poor wee man.
