Do you ever feel like people just arent listening to you? Since he was about 2 weeks old, Ollie has been grunting, groaning and straining to poo (stop reading now if you dont like poo!!) So - I mentioned this to my midwife, who said it was completely normal and not to worry about it.

Its been getting steadily worse for the little man, and in the last 2 weeks, he has been screaming out in pain, and is clearly not happy - and this process can go on for hours (as in he starts "pushing" at 4am, and the grunting, groaning, straining and crying goes on for hours!) so I mentioned it to my GP - nothing to worry about apparently....told that he was clearly not constipated as his poo was still soft and runny!  So I am pretty worried as he is clearly in pain and its quite distressing to watch it and know I cant do anything to help! We have tried to give him water but he isnt that fussed on taking it.

This afternoon he did finally manage to push out a hard poo. His poor little face turned purple trying to get it out.....it was about the size of a golf ball and had blood in it. Not nice at all. Promptly followed by lots of soft poo!

So - my plunket nurse has just been and I mention it to her and get the same response...pretty normal, but no poo shouldnt have blood in it, have I tried giving him water? Useless really. I am telling people that my baby is in pain and no-one seems to be listening. So I ring the GPs surgery and talk to the nurse....get similar suggestions, water, massage his tummy etc but I think I finally managed to get the message through that he is in pain, so am going back to the GPs tomorrow.

I am so frsutrated that I have been trying to tell people for weeks that my baby had a problem in that department and no-one was really listening. Feel like I was getting fobbed off as over-anxious mummy. Arrghhhhh...

Sorry poo related rant over!!

Simsam you should talk to Faraway (Kathryn). Her little boy Caleb has had constant problems that sound very similar.
Big hugs for your wee man. It doesn't sound pleasant!

I went thru the same thing with Cooper. We were given Enema's (sp) and Coloxyl drops. The drops worked really well for him. I also changed his formula and since then all has been well. Goodluck I hope they listen to you this time..

please please keep at them.. go private!

my daughter is almost 5 and has struggled with poos from an early age. I tried the afterhours, plunket, our GP!
she then developed encropresis and leaks/soils throughout the day and no-one at creche wanted to play with her she also started doing bowel motions the size of my arm and was in constant pain. she went toilet once a week if we were lucky for almost 3 years. the GP FINALLY referred us to the hospital to see a paediatrician, and still, no improvement.
i paid $180 to see a private specialist 2 months ago and she couldnt believe the treatment plan janaya was on. She said janayas bowel was almost triple what it should be and is so stretched it will take up to two years before she is having normal sized poos now because of the shape the bowel has formed into. she quickly presribed me some oil and some tablets to move the food down and janaya is now going toilet every second day and has NO ACCIDENTS.

That is not nice, keep pushing they will get the hint that you aren't going to sit back. I did for Andrew's ears and we got the operations.

Kaiz, that is not nice for your little girl to go through.
