Hi ladies, Can you tell me what you wore whilst in labour in the hospital ... I get the fact that you would wear nothing on the bottom half ... but Im wondering what kind of clothes you found comfy on the top half. Im planning on spending a lot of time in the spa pool so that part I have sussed out, but If I cant stand the water for any reason Im wondering what I could wear to be comfy whilst wandering/lying/rolling around the birthing suite. ------------- Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months) I did it .. 41 kgs gone! while labouring at home and when i went to hospital, i was wearing my pj bottoms and a jersey (late at night) then after an hour in the delivery room i was sweating so i changed into a chemise type nightie. it was really comfy and i could be naked where i needed to be, without being naked ------------- http://www.alternatickers.com">

I wore the same as Vanessa at home and both times at hospital I just wore the gowns they provided.
I hadn't intended too and had bought some big Grandpa type singlets from the warehouse for labour, but it was just easier to wear the gowns and have them deal with the cleanup! ------------- Mel, Mummy to E: 6, B: 4 and:

Wore PJs while I was at home (labour started at midnight) and then when I got to hospital I just wore the gown. I too was trying to figure what I should wear during labour, but in the end wearing the gown was so much easier and like caraMel said you don't have to worry about cleaning it. ------------- Mum to Ella (5) and Tom (2) |

I arrived at the hospital in yoga pants and my nighty lol.. once there I changed into one of the hospital gowns that opens at the front. Was surprisingly comfy and airy so I didn't overheat. And then it was great cause I didn't have to clean my own stuff.
I took a top for going in the spa bath but couldn't stand water so that didn't get used |

Hosp gown is what i wore!!!
Agree with others.. let them clean it up!!! Edit for: and you will get to a point that you wont care what you are wearing while you are in labour! I wore trackpants and a t-shirt at home then the m/w suggested a sarong for the pool (we were packing the bags when I was in labour - hadn't bought anything else yet). The sarong was great except that the colour leaked in the pool - which was only a problem at the end cause the midwife couldn't see anything in the dyed water - then i was down to wearing nothing. -------------

Yep hospital gown for me too. I did buy a couple of cheap loose nighties but as it happened so quick and the gown was right there i just put that on. Didn't bother doing it up either. -------------

I was just wearing a tshirt. Didn't get off the bed though as I had the monitors strapped to my belly the whole time. I wore yoga pants at home, and then hospital goown once there. Things can get pretty messy, so I agree with the others, let them clean it up. Also enables midwife to get easy access if she needs to and then the gown can be opened quickly to place baby on for first skin to skin cuddle and suckle straight after birth.
I went home a couple of hours later so I just put the yoga pants back on. If you a looking for a pair of comfy pants, I would recommend the Womma range. I just discovered this great company. www.womama.co.nz They have pants, nighties and BF singlets. Just found the pants (which are designed to be worn prego or not). Wish I had them when prego. Hey 3boys thanks for the link ... they have some nice clothes! Oh and I like the Sarong idea too ... I was the same. I arrived in trackies and then when I got in the shower I wanted to use one of their gowns but I couldnt work out how to get it on and was too embarassed to ask so I put trackies back on. Then into water naked (starting to not care at this stage) and then out and on to bed (towel wrapped around for modesty) Had epidural so stayed under sheet. Somewhere along the way I ended up in one of their gowns but for the life of me I dont know how. I never thought I would get my gear off in front of so many people....my mum saw EVERYTHING (she had best/worst view in the house) and I couldnt have cared less at the time.

I wore my sarong and a big t shirt while I laboured at home then when I got to hospital I stripped off and was completely naked the whole time. I hated anything touching my body other than fingers for massage on my back! Made it easier to when they had to put the monitors on anything else they needed to do.

I arrived at the hospital fully dressed in my PP trousers a nice top etc had only been in labour for one hour so far. Hubby managed to get my trousers off between contractions I think and then laboured in the nice top with a sheet over bottom half. My mid wife asked if I wanted to take my top off but I just screamed at her that I couldn't as by that time the contractions weren't stopping!!! So 3/4 hour later I had baby gunk all over my nice top!!!! Oh well it washed up ok nappisan is fantastic

I just wore whatever maternity pants I happened to be wearing at the time. And because I HATE having my breasts loose I changed into a maternity bra before I left home. And a comfy t-shirt. When at the hospital I just put the hosp gowns on over my maty bra and/or my t-shirt (in winter). Didn't get mucky but I didn't feel exposed - except for the obvious parts but that didn't matter to me. The top sure did. -------------  |

I was in track pants and one of M's t-shirts at home and on the way to hospital. At hospital they got me to change into a gown when I arrived which stayed on till I had my c-section (getting it off was more than a little troublesome though) ------------- ">

With Jack I started in pjs, then gown but ended up delivering naked and while I didn't mind at the time I do noe because in all the pictures you can see my boobs so i'm so embarassed of them.
So with Caprece I told everyone I would be wearing a top and to remind me to put one back on if it comes off. I'm much happier with the pictures because of me wearing a top. |

I was just in my normal maternity clothes at home and when I arrived at hospital, then straight into a bikini as soon as I was off the monitors and able to hit the bath. Obviously only half the bikini got to stay once baby started heading out but by then I didn't care. Plan B was a hospital gown but I didn't need one it turned out. Then I had nice summer jammie-jims of my own to put on once I'd showered. ------------- Andie |
