The little five year old girl being abducted while walking to school by an EIGHTEEN year old?!

The poor woman being repeatedly run over, then abducted then murdered?

The racial riots in Sydney?

What is going on with the world?!?!

My in-laws live in sydney and honestly, i'm not surprsied about the riots. people in middle eastern garb walking past....there becomes a feeling of tension. I really feel for some of them. I had a bunch of little girls come up to us in the park and say how cute Jake was, so obviously they were lovely kids! and perceptive....

BTW - i don't believe in the bird flu. I think it's a myth

I'm not too worried about the bird flu either. I mean, no one seems to know when it will get here if it even gets here at all!

Yeah, bird flu doesn't get me concerned... If it happens it happens but I think it is a load of bollocks! It seems to be just people hurting other people that we should be concerned about at the moment!

I think if it does hit, people will band together a lot more. I mean, no one...apart from maybe my nana, has six months of food in the cupboard! And I don't really plan on doing so! we have a vege gardent though.

I am not overly worried about it, but there will some kind of epidemic (or is it pandemic?) in the next few years, even if it isnt bird flu. Its just one of those things that cycles and I think we are overdue for something. Well thats what we got told at the hospitals emergency procedure training thingy!

If it does come the supermarkets probably wont be open or banks either - thats a bit of a problem if you dont have enough food etc. I guess those that do have a stock will be less likely to get sick cos they will be able to isolate themselves. I wont be one of those people tho, cant afford to stock up!! But yeah, hopefully people do help each other out.

I was really appalled at the Hurricane Katrina thing. I mean, you would expect to hear tales of people banding together, but instead people rioted, and went crazy. I hope that if that ever happened in NZ, we wouldn't behave that way. I mean, if we had a hurricane I would steal food to feed my family, but i wouldn't go out and nick a plasma screen TV....

Thats what i like about where we live our neighbours are so giving im sure our little community would be self sufficent for months, meat, veges, milk etc all off the land. But i have started buying the odd tin of spag or pkt of rice or pasta when i do grocerys. Just in case. Apparently it will take about 3 months for the pandemic to burn out in areas. The thing im worried about too is secondary disease from bodies that are left out because they are saying even though the person is no longer contagous when they die, there isnt going to be enough people to embalm or bury them. So you can either temporarily bury loved ones or just wait.

I'm a bit causcious (sorry can't spell that :P) about travelling on planes now but had to go to brisbane in october.. have not stocked up at all - don't even have things apart from water for a normal emergency!

To be honest I've had alot more important things to deal with than sitting at home twiddling my thumbs wondering when the bird flu will get here :P :P
