Well after my whole reluctance to put up her big girls bed I finally did and she hates it! At the start she played on it then when i put on her sheets and duvet she wouldnt have a bar of it. What do I do? Kobe went straight into his bed, the minute it was up he refused his cot but every time addi goes for a sleep i ask if she wants to sleep in her big bed but she cries and points to her cot. if i lay her in it she just screams and jumps straight out. Ive tried lying in there with her during the day (dont want to get her in the habit of me sleeping with her) but its just not happening. So do I take the cot down and make her sleep in it, give it a bit more time (its been about a week since i put it up) or just take down the big bed and try it later? Oh and she can climb in and out of it, its really low to the ground so dont think thats the problem. Any ideas?

I'd say give her a bit more time, she's still quite young to be making the transition, she might be more willing in a month or two.

Can you leave them both up so she can continue in her cot but play on the bed and get used to it. Then try again in a month or so.

yeah thats what i was thinking, just leave it up for now. A couple of people have said to me well of course she will pick her cot if she has the option and that i should take it down but dont really want to do that, she goes to bed so well i dont want to make it an issue but just wasnt sure if thats what i should be doing. The only reason i put it up now was cos she loves our bed and kobes bed so thought she would like one of her own but apparently not!

What about trying taking down the cot just for the day and see if that works.. if it doesn't you can always put it back up.

I think it's probably because she can see it. One thing would be to put the cot away and stick with the big bed thing, and be willing for it to take a few more days to transition. Or you could go back to the cot for a little while, would you be happy if each night she could choose which one she wants? Hannah was quite particular as well and didn't like her bed for a little while. But I had naively collapsed the cot so just rode it through. She was about 17mos and it took about 3 days I think.

Another thought: what about moving her from the cot to the bed after she falls asleep at night? Then she will slowly get used to the idea of sleeping in the bed?

Can you take the side off her cot, so its like a little big bed? We had the side off Han's for quite a while, but the transition to big bed was no problem at all.

I was mean and took the cot down and shut the door so he couldn't get out. It took a week max before Jack was fine with it.

He was quite a bit older and I couldn't really put him back in his cot since he kept jumping/falling out.

It won't hurt ot leave her in the cot a bit longer.

I put up the bed in the room & left Brae sleeping in the cot for awhile before he actually started sleeping in the bed. WE also had a side bar & went out & got some novelty sheets & pillows etc, that i let Brae choose.

Maya was a bit of a monkey when she first went into a bed, she was closer to 2 tho, maybe 22 months or so? She got out of bed a few times but in the end I shut the bedroom door and she couldn't reach the handle to come out.

I know Ang is having problems with getting her Ella to stay in bed, they've got the cot and bed up in her room but she won't stay in either.

hmmm at this stage its not even a case of getting her to stay in the bed its getting her to get on it without screaming. the minute i go to put her in it she cries and cries and points to her cot.
Think i will give it another week and then just take her cot out for a couple of nights and see what happens. Im not worried if she wants to stay in her cot but she just seemed to love our bed and kobes bed so thought she would love her own.
Thanks for all the advice ladies, sometimes its so hard to know what to do!
