I can't tell you what to try but my son is 10 months old and only started crawling a month ago. All babies do things in their own time so don't worry too much.

jack didn't crawl til he was just over 12mths old. he's not walking by himself quite yet either. as alan's mum said babies will do everything in their own time.
when he's on his tummy do you put toys in front of him to look at? maybe a playmat with different textured things on for him to feel/play with would be a good idea, have a look on trademe

tummy time isnt the only way they strengthen the right muscles. my first hated it too but got good neck muscles by lifting his head when i had him on my tummy. i wouldnt worry if he isnt crawling yet. there is no definite time frame for achieving these things.

Paris hated it too, so learnt to sit, and that's how she stayed till 11 months when she learnt to bum shuffle. she stood by herself at about 14 months, and then she went back and filled in the gaps, learning finally to roll over, and to crawl, then one day she just started walking. babies do things in their own ways.. that i learnt the hard way - i tried everything from mirrors in fron tof her to toys in front of her, putting them near so she could reach them, far so she would have to move to get them... nothing worked. I spent too much time back then focusing on that, and not enough focusingon the bright little girl ihad who liked to just sit and figure stuff out. I'm sure James will do whatever he wants, when he wants - i know it's hard waiting but just take advantage of what he can do and it will be even more exciting when he finally learns all those things because it will be worth it.

i also just saw your ticker and see that he's only 6 months old too - That's pretty early to be worried about craling too - some people are lucky enough to have littlies crawl at that age - but most don't till between 8 - 10 months. my second girl ayja LOVES tummy time and is rolling about etc, but no signs of crawling yet. hang in there - it'll happen

Maya was close to 8 mths before she crawled, and yet she walked at just over 10 mths. Each baby is different, and will do things in theit own time, but the average age to start crawling is between 8-10 mths so your bub has plenty of time to learn! My fat lzy baby didn't even roll over until after 7 mths!

jake crawled at 6 months, and i had spent so long thinking, i can't wait til he can crawl. then after that, i can't wait til he can walk....and as anyone who has met jake will testify - he now runs everywhere and is EXHAUSTING me! with B2 i will definitely be enjoying the more stationary stage!

BTW when well-meaning people ask you if he's crawling, say just about. It makes it easier not to smack them when they start-in about their child who walked out of the womb.

oooh Ayja started sitting yesterday... i got her up from her nap and sat her in front of me with a couple of toys and for once, she didn't face dive or throw herself backwards - just sat nicely and used her hands to balance. Today has been great cos her new toys have taught her to balance with one hand and use the other to play.

ooooh i am so excited. looks funny though cos she's still such a tiny wee dot - i can't help but think "baby" .. but she's not, she's doing so much.. but still soo little.

he he, he'll do it, ayja rolled a couple of times then didn't for a while - now she is rolling everywhere, sitting and today has spent the day pushing herself round in circles, and backwards - but not forwards yet.

anyone have ideas on how to get her to sleep- she has learnt to roll over in bed and thinks it's fun to peer over the cot edge and look in mums mirror - no use turning her cos she turns round to face it either way. so annoying.

lol my mums had 6 kids - still doesn't give the greatest advice alot of the time

have tried leaving her - she just looks all around and thinks she's great, have unwittingly thought she was asleep a few times and gone in to find her trying to pull herself over the edge of the cot, with legs over the edge and all, scary stuff. thought of the safety sleep but she would still roll - at least would keep her away from edges i spose.     did once think she was asleep and went in to find she had fallen asleep on her tummy - and obviously does not get the idea that you have to turn your head - she was face down - luckily she has a little dent in her matress where her head has been and i hadn't turned her matress.. so her nose wasn't completely blocked. freaked me out though. argh - gimme my little immobile bumshuffler baby like paris.... he he he

we used one of them for paris, but ayja used to scream when we put it on her when she was a newbie so we stopped using it.

Just thought i would post this pic,.. this is what i found the other day when i went back to check after leaving the room literally 2 mins before ... have since found her on her tummy, with nightie only round her neck both arms out... so she can suck on the sleeve....

lol Janine. You must have a very squiggly baby!
I have nothing at all in the way of advice. Hannah has only now started to move a whole lot. Used to be able to sleep quite comfortably with her in my bed but now if I put her in there within a few seconds she is upside down or has her head dangling over the edge. So annoying!

Have you got Ayja on the lowest level of the cot??? I hope she doesn't learn to climb out!

Hey Nikki, When jake sleeps with me, he ALWAYS falls out.....and I'm such a mean mummy cause i laugh...only a little, he's not hurt. Sometimes he gets wedged and you can hear him squawk and see his legs wiggle about. Hmmm, should take a pic of that.

We are moving her down today actually, have been meaning to for a while cos she is able to put arms over edge and grab at things. yes she is a very squiggly baby indeedy.

last night i made the mistake of trying to change her nappy after her dream feed, cos usually she stays asleep - nup last night she woke up.. about 10.15pm i think. and that was it... i tried sticking her in bed with me... we used to do that with paris and within 5 seconds she would be asleep, nice and still. ayja promptly rolled over, rolled around the bed, sucked on pillows, pulled duvet over her head, wriggled her way to near the end of the bed, and also found time to completely scrag me in the process, finally at about 11.45pm, just before daddy came home from being out, she settled down with a bit of coaxing..   the worst thing is putting her in her bed, and me going to bed, and you think it's all quiet, and you're trying to get to sleep, then you feel someone watching you and you open your eyes to see a little girl peering over the edge of the cot, smiling at you. argh. so very tired, lol

it's just getting baby up for a feed while they are still sleeping - Ayja stopped gaining weight for a while when she was little, and began sleeping right through - so plunket nurse suggested getting her up for a last feed before i go to bed - but no way was i going to fully wake her up, nor did she usually wake up when i tried anyway, so i just fed her while she's asleep - dream feed.

we thought she was doing well, cos after being born only weighing 6lb 2, she jumped up to 6lb 9 then 7lb then up to 8lb within 2 weeks, so we thought we had a little chubba on our hands, but she's since settled and is gaining slowly and steadily... we have just come to the conlusion that our kids will not be big, they have their daddy's genetic make-up, lucky girls.

Paris was just under 10kgs at about 20 months, so at a guess i would hope she was closer to 13kg now... but it's doubtful. last time she was measrued a few months back she was about 90cm tall i think.

Mike is 31kg, highest he has been is 36 kg, he went up to that just after we met, but then went back down and sorta stays around that much.

He eats heaps. he has been to dieticians, put on diets that would make a flea as big as an elephant, lolol, but they don't work.

When ayja was last weighed at about 5 and a half months she was 5.5 kgs and was 65 cms long.    ayja is on 3 half bowlfuls of food and veges etc a day,. plus bf on demand and 1 bottle at least per day too, and paris eats heaps, and is a really bad snacker, my girls are just lightweights i guess,

My bubbs is about 9.2kg and 71cm tall. A good solid wee man. He has jsut started demanding solids 3x a day, after seeing his big cuzzies chowing down at brekkie and lunch over the holidays, he wanted what they were having, so I tried him out, and he loves it. Hadn't had much luck trying to get him to eat more than one meal a day even up to a week before that. So proud!!!

Jacob is up twice during the night as well, and I am getting tired of it!! I have started "dream feeding" him again before I go to bed (feeding him with ut waking him)and letting him cry it out when he wakes at 2am, which is hard, especially this morning as he went hard and loud and really upset for about 3/4 hour! I went in twice to cuddle him, but it probably makes it worse as he can smell my milk, but hubby wouldn't do it, he would rather lie there complaining about the noise........ he finally drifted off, and didn't wake again till 5am, and I fed him then, then back to sleep until 8am. Hopefully this cry it out starts to work soon!!
