Hi all

My midwife recommended I book DD into the Playcentre space programme. Does anyone know anything about it?

Yes! I cant recommend it highly enough! Isla and I have been going all this year and it has been so good for both of us. The support from the people who run the programme has been excellent, and the advise they have been able to give on varied baby related topics has been so worth it!

Basically its a programme run in some playcentres for first time mums and their babies. Our group had 12 people and 2 people that ran it. It was once a week for 2 1/2 hours, was free, and they provided yummy afternoon tea!

At the beginning of the session there was free time for like 1/2 hr to chat etc, they put age appropitae toys out for the babies, and this time allowed for poeople running late! Then there was a session a a topic each week, eg- feeding, sleep, play etc. Also there was guest speakers occasionally like plunket car seat hire to check our seats where installed correctly( near the age when most babies had just moved out of capsules).
After the topic part, they would get out different toys etc, and have the afternoon tea. Sometimes the mums made toys to take home, we did foot prints of the babies for their folders, and sometimes they took photos and printed them so we could make a page for their file. We usually did a few songs or had a story too,...and a few times when the babies were playing up, the 'formal' topic part got wped, and we just sung and played games instead!

Hi I take my baby 8 months to space which stands for: Supporting parents alongside childrens education.

It is such an excellent programme and a must for first time mums to gain support, ideas from other mums and also play ideas too.

We have been going since he was 4 months and each week we chat about a different topic just like kellz said.

they have a website where theres more info

It is AMAZING and I also can't recommend it highly enough. We probably started a bit late and the other babies are all younger but even so the information and learning is so interesting. I think the concept is brilliant and I would say GO FOR IT!

3 months, the others in the group were up to a month older, and a month younger than Isla.

I know that when I looked into it, there was no space for us on any local ones so instead I went for the plunket pepe group course. Not as full on as the playcentre Space thing, but at least it covered some of the development areas and i learnt some stuff. Might be an option if you can't get into one.
