I have gotten an egg plant, rock melon, watermelon and cucumber to grow.

Anyone have any advice of how to get them to grow well??

I only brought them as trials so i'm not too fussed if they don't grow (only lost $4 but with what is growing out there I don't think that'll be a big loss).

No I don't have a Yates book - I should ask DH for that instead of the other thing I have asked him for.

Heres what the Yates book says...

EGGPLANT - may take 14-16 weeks to bear fruit. Plants grow 60-90cm tall so may need to be staked for support. Harvest when skin is smooth and rich purple colour. The fruit stalks are hard and woody so cut with secateurs to avoid damaging plants. (Didnt say anything about fertilisers etc).

ROCKMELON/CUCUMBER/WATERMELON - melons are grown the same as cucumbers. To save space they can be grown on a fence or trellis. The vines need help to climb when young, so tie the stems to the wire quite well. AFter flowering, scatter a mixed fertiliser around the base of the plants. Repeat this side-dressing at 4-5 week intervals while plants are bearing. They sould continue to fruit well into autumn. The worst enemy is mildew. Fruit setting will improve in warm sunny weather.

Hope that helps.

Thanks I may have to move my egg plant now as it will hit my washing line. And my watermelon to the trellis.
