hi ladies

a somewhat general question for you all, when did you first start to 'show', and what do you think is 'normal' (although i know there is really no such thing). was there much / any difference between first and second (or more) babies, for those of you with more than one? (or expecting number two.)

i'm starting to show a little, although most of it is probably 'flubba' as opposed to 'bubba', but it kinda rounds things out a little LOL my pants are definitely getting way too small and i'm getting some real maternity ones shortly. i'm kinda excited about getting a bit more rounded, so people can really tell ! crazy eh

anyway, take care folks ! happy holidays to everyone.

jax

was just looking at my pics from this pregnancy. I was showing a little at 17 weeks, but the difference between 17 and 20 was quite substantial.

I think with jake I wasn't really showing much until 20-25 weeks. And it can be difficult to distinguish between "i'm having a child" belly and "i've eaten lots of pies" belly earlier on. Depends what you wear a lot.

oh yeh i think im in the same stage i have an obvious bump people can tell i am preggers but its still flubba and not bubba yet i think having lots of cramps lately so i think things are really starting to grow and move haha

It varies for everyone, i took forever to show with paris, second time round i showed heaps earlier at 18 weeks it was pretty distinguishable, but then things slowed down again and i still didn't end up too big. i think between 12 wks and 20 weeks you just kinda expand and beef up around everywhere, once you get past 20 wks it gets to be more of a tummy.

Me at nearly 5 months 1st pregnancy (about 18 weeks, at my 21st... you can hardly see any belly, if at all)

Me at not even 18 weeks 2nd pregnancy.. definate belly

and then full term 2nd time...

OK, That must mean i am strange then. I am only 9 wk 4 days and already have a definite bump. I was plodgy before hand, but it has really filled out and is a lot tighter. I get pains too, i know it's early, but i reckon its bubs moving. Would that sound about right ? (btw, thisa is my first)

I can't remember when I started showing :( I'll have to dig out some pics.. but it wasn't for a while though.. and I was all belly.

Chonny, usually you start to feel the baby move at about 20 weeks with your first and a few weeks earlier with your second.. so I don't think you would be able to feel your baby moving yet.. but who knows? :)

It was at about 10wks when i got a definite bump and it definitely looked like i was pregnant, so trying to keep it on the down low became real hard and everyone soon found out. I think everyone is different, depending on their shape and size pre-pregnancy.

I think I started showing at around 9 weeks-ish. I'm 15 weeks today *yay* and my Godson's older brother (age 4 going on 40) said to me last night "Auntie Toni, You're getting fat!" LOL lil' bugger.
But I am indeed, I've been feeling heaps of growing/stretching pains this week and my belly is starting to feel harder!
For example, today I'm wearing a shirt that 3 months ago was verging on being a bit big... Now i can't do up the bottom button

Chontelle... pains are probably from the uterus growing, muscles stretching etc ect. Feeling baby move feels like bubbles. Much like gas unfortunately so sometimes its hard to tell in the early days!!! Soon you'll be wishing the baby will stop moving. They seem to get active at the most inconvenient times!

Yeah...I find every so often I get funny almost light crampy sort of stretchy feelings...it was a little unnerving at first and I was a little worried but I've been told it is perfectly normal...

Thanks guys, it's nicew to know i'm not the only one showing early. As i say, i had a bulge before hand, but now it's definately baby. Its really funny coz if i'm walking around, my tummy goes all hard, and if i'm lying down, it softens. So the pains i'm getting are just stretching? OK Kewl, i do have a feeling i will feel movement early though. Mum felt me at 11wks and i'm the eldest. But then as you say, everyone is diferent. I'm just so glad for this forum! lol

still on the subject of showing -Did anyone manage to get to the Pumpkin Patch sale? I'm not sure when it ends??!?! I got heaps (I only went in for a pair of jeans lol) spent $150 on 2 singlets (one dressy, one plain) a t-shirt, shirt for work and a pair of my beloved jeans (I missed my jeans sooooo much! LOL)

Funny how proper maternity clothes make you look bigger

haha I remember trying to wear maternity tops when I really didn't need to. I was just so excited about having a bump! Had to tie them up at the side or back to make sure everyone knew I did actually have a belly

Posted By: Paws

I've noticed I seem to have flubber going to my belly though I haven't really put on much weight overall and nowhere else on me looks chubbier...I was thinking that with that happening at 6 weeks I must be going mad but after reading about a few others showing early maybe not....

I can't wait to get a real bump!

It's not the tops that were the issue (but they were cheap and nice so I couldn't resist - It was the trousers trying to cut me in half that I couldn't handle anymore, even the hipsters seemed to sit right where it was the most uncomfortable.

Now to find a half decent maternity bar that even my grandmother wouldn't screw her nose up at    Any hints or tips? I'm sure I'm not the only woman in NZ with a size 10 back and Huuuuuuge preggy boobs! lol (I used to wear 10D, but I won't be able to get away with that for much longer, at some stage I'm gonna need to breathe out )

I still rate bendon maternity bras. While pricey they are that much more comfortable. You can get some cheap plain bras but they just pissed me off.

When do most people go and buy maternity bras??

I'm embarrased to say I got a couple already...I've jumped a cup size already and they were the only comfortable reasonably priced things around!

But then I read something that said you should only buy them in week 36....

I bought one the other day toni from the bendon outlet store in east tamaki (akl) down from $45 to $25. I thought that was a realkly good price. I have heard that too paws, but i got one, haven't worn it yet coz got a DD and am only D at the mo, but i have already jumped from C to D cup. Amazing things that happen aye. Also, i'm so excited! My Mum said yesterday i look like i've lost wait coz it's all baby now. YAY! Defionately a baby bump now!

I bought mine at around 12 weeks, and I wear it ALL the time, so will need to get another one. It's heaps more comfortable than even my sports or normal underwire bras, even people at work have noticed how much bigger my boobies are now :P Charming eh? ;)

I had Triumph maternity bras, and they weren't the most unattrractive things around which I guess is a bonus coz most maternity bra's are pretty hideous, especially when you get up to the E and F cup sizes (God help me with our next baby I'll probably go off the sizing charts ).
I gt fitted the week before Maya was born, as they reckon 36 weeks is the best time to ensure it will fit once the milk comes in (OK so I left it a little late) . They also say you should be fitted by a specialist fitter at that stage, I went to a place called Naturalwear in Onehunga who specialise in that sort of stuff and they were great, and reasonably priced (about the same as Farmers - $40-$50 each).

But of maternity bras are comfy during pregnancy I say go for it.

Man, i hope mine don't go to an E. I mean yea it could eb kind of nice to for once in my life have big ones, but help, E size? Imagine the back pain? I certainly do feel for people lwith that problem. I knwo someone who had them about an E and got a boob job coz they were too heavy and hurting her back

Mine never changed, even after the milk came in, they just got "fuller". I agree with Emma about the triumph bras, I got some great ones at Farmers after I had been fitted (they don't know the first thing about maternity bras at our farmers, let alone how to fit them)I got fitted at Bras n things at the palms in CHCH, and i bought the BEST EVER maternity bra's there, they are the "yummy mummy" bras by triumph, a nice t shirt bra, so comfy, and in nice colours as well, hot pink, pale blue. i even got a free bib that says "if you think I'm yummy, you should see my mummy".
The october/november little treasures had a great article on maternity bras if you can lay your hands on one.
Excuse the novel...

boo hoo, i used to have nice boobs - now, after feeding 2 kids, and still feeding Ayja. If i wore a top without a bra i would be flat. never mind - have some of those silicone chicken fillet thingies and a few good padded bras, so i'll be looking like pamela in no time lolololol - no-one will ever have to know. except you guys, but you won't tell.

oooh Jacobx mum - that bib thing reminds me of the funniest t-shirts for babies ever... kgot an email with them on , has pics of babies with t-shirts saying the following:

"Daddy's little squirt" (with a pic of sperm on it)
"My pee-pee is bigger than yours"
"I can kick your baby's a#%"
"F the gerber baby"
"Are you my daddy?"

and the ones i liked the most:

"I tore mummy a new one!"
"All daddy wanted was a blowjob" and
"Daddy drinks cause i cry"

If anyone wants the pics , pm me your email

I was wondering about maternity bras all seeming to be softcup rather than underwire. I always wear an underwire bra (D cup) and I don't know how a softcup would go.
Is it for health reasons? Comfort? Does a soft-cup give enough support???

Posted By: Maya
Date Posted: 03 February 2006 at 3:28pm
Ha Ha Liz - I hope you were kidding !

Chaucey - they reckon that a soft cup is better during pregnancy/feeding as sometimes wires can cut into the breast and cause blocked milk ducts which can lead to yucky mastitis. Also, because you tend to have tender breasts during pregnancy and the soft cups are kinder to sore boobs. But it is all personal choice.
