Hey, I have just been diagnosed with placenta previa and just wondering if anyone here has delivered naturally after being diagnosed? I have heard nothing but horror stories from my midwife and need a bit of positive news! I would really like to go through a normal labour as this is my first bub. can anyone help?

Hi Dayna, I haven't had any experience with placenta previa, but I do know that Jess (Teenmummy) had placenta previa with her second baby, and delivered him naturally.

often as baby grows, the placenta moves up and off the cervix - this happened with my friend.

It depends alot on how low the placenta is lying. In some cases a normal delivery might be attempted, but in others it would be impossible to do so safely. Obviously if it is anywhere near the cervix, as the cervix dilates there is the chance you could bleed.. if it is covering the opening - then baby has no way out and again there's huge risk for bleeding. Talk to your midwife more about what degree of it you have and what you options are... if any. It can be hard to let go of the idea of having a "normal" labour for your baby... but in the end a safe bub and mum is all that counts really. hope that helps a little.... but definately go and talk to your midwife more about it - that's what she's there for - she should be giving you info ... not just horror stories.. but maybe she's just warning you so you know the danger signs to look out for.

Thanks guys, I wish my midwife would give me a bit more info, but right now all I know is that I have a "true" placenta previa, its covering the cervix, my midwife said theres a chance it will move, but not a very good 1, you're right about the labour, I really dont want to let go of my small bit of hope that I will be able to do it "normally" but I guess its not a choice I get to make thanks for the help, its good to hear from other mummys.
