*sigh*
I just spoke with one of the midwives in charge of getting my body in the right place for TTC'ing. Now, I knew that this wasnt going to be easy and that having diabetes automatically means its going to be just a weency bit more difficult, and I guess I just need to vent, But she has now told me that I need to be testing double as much as i normally would..

I test my sugars before each meal and insulin shot, which works out to be abut 6 a day.. She wants me to double it..
*sigh* again, i know its not half as tough as some of the things you ladies go thru but I just feel like its just too much right now.. I want this, dont get me wrong, but (wah wah) its so tough...

*sigh*

Hi my SIL has type one diabetes which couldn't be regulated by shots so she has an insulin pump and she also has kidney problems and she has had two gorgeous children. Her pregnancies where highly monitored and she was induced early and had to be at a specialist hospital in london with both.
So I don't know what it is like to go through this but I am very close to someone who has and have an idea of what you are going through so s to you.

I had gestational diabetes so not anything i had to do before TTcing but when I found out out I was testing heaps, before food, 1 hour after food, 2 hours after food and once morning and night. I can sympathise so big hugs but it was soooo worth it. rhyley was 9lb 4oz born (a week early) they were happy for me to birth naturally but since he was breeched they didn't want to take the risk and so he was a ceasar. His blood was tested the first 24 hours and all fine so no more testing after that.

Lol i was a little shocked you knew my name.. And then i saw who it was
I guess im just a little stressed about it all.. I know this will happen, im gonna make it happen, but does anyone else feel like there is a wall that gets worn away but the stress of it all? THats how i feel at this moment in time... And again, I dont want you all to think 'you silly thing, you dont know the half of it!' cos I know that some of you are struggling in more ways than i can imagine right now, but to me this is hard!

I spoke with my step mother last night, and while it was really good she kept going on about ' dont get so up tight about it! just let it happen! you might fall pg next week, youmight next year'

I was like yea, sure, if i just let it happen i run and even higher risk of birth defects! ANd if I dont fall pg for a year, do you know how hard it is to keep your blood sugars under COMPLETE control for THAT LONG!!! Im finding it hard enough now and Ive only been doing this for a couple of months!!! she doesnt get it. Im thinking I wont tell anyone else we are gonna start TTC soon esp if im gonna get comments like that!
Gosh Darn...

Hi. I've never posted before but just thought I'd reply because, like you, I've been diabetic for the past 16 years. I am a mum to two beautiful children and I am currently undergoing the same process as you in trying to get my blood sorted so that we can try and conceive our third. I totally hear what you are saying! You are held back by a lot while you are waiting, and while you get it right to start with, insulin requirements change during pregnancy, so it's just this constant learning curve! In fact, I don't think I've ever tested so much in my life as I have while preparing for, and during pregnancy!

Both of my pregnancies were completely different from each other. My first went to term and just had no problems. My second had issues (even though my blood was totally sorted) ending in a premature delivery. Even though it was a completely different road with its own ups and downs, it all worked out in the end. In fact to look at my little boy now, you would never even know what he went through! He is just this gorgeous ball of active mischief!!

I guess the whole point of my post was to try and offer some support for what you're going through, and just to say that it does all work out in the end..... So a big hug to you, because you'll get through this, get your blood right, get your BFP, and when you hold your baby this will all be just a hazy memory that was so worth it - trust me!

awww, wow !!1 its great to "meet" a person in the same shoes as me!!
Believe me, there arent many of us! I think we are a dyeing breed us T1's lol

THank you so much for your words of support.. I really feel like i need them right now, so much stress about it all..

I just spoke with one of my pre-preg midwives and she said that its all looking pretty good, just a little bit of fine tuning needed so that was encouraging!!!!

Oh yay!...see - you're nearly there!! You're right though you know, I've heard of lots of people who've had gestational diabetes, but you're the first person I've spoken to who is ttc with diabetes. Reading your post reminded me how I felt when we were first ttc - it was all a bit daunting! If it's any consolation, it gets easier with subsequent pregnancies - both when preparing to conceive and during pregnancy - because you roughly know what doses you need based on your previous pregnancy. Are you going publicly or privately? I'm up at National Womens. The diabetes clinic there is just fantastic! The dr's and midwives there are so lovely, and dealing with diabetes and pregnancy all the time - they really know there stuff! I've had outstanding care - they really should get more credit than they do!!!

IM going publicly at this stage and IM with the National womens team at the auckland hospital. they are fantastica nd have been a real help with all this. Its harder than it looks trying to get the sugars under control BEFORE we even start trying. I had thought they were in good control, but apparently when having a baby it needs to be even better! i keep telling myself its ok, it wont be forever, only while we want children, cos gosh darn! do you know how hard it is to get the control that they want?! PHEW! lol

Tehehe, update.
My last appointment at teh clinic proved very good. I have my HB1ac almost there and the doc advised I can come off the pill next month (march) i adv we probably wouldnt start actively TTC for another three months or so, and she seemd happy with that.
I am currently testing before food, two hours after, morning and before bed. Insulin requirements have been discovered to keep me level and its going pretty well.
Have lost more weight and doc was happy with that as she suspected PCOS, but wont test LSH (i think it was LSH.. lutenising hormone? cant remember) until i come off the pill. My last set of bloods revealed nothing wrong vitamin wise, all perfect.

Hi almostthere...

Im also a type1 diabetic who has had 2 lovely boys and recently pregnant with my 3rd which was also delayed 6mths because of blood suger readings... Although i was told again not to get pregnant, it kinda happened.. I have had perfect contol the last 2 mths before getting preggy but my hbaic result hadent come down much but hoping it has now..

My first son was if it happened it did kinda pregnancy.. I didnt even know to have perfect control before getting preggy... I had perfect control once i found out I was preggy and all thru that pregnancy.. I had him at 38wks by elective ceaser and he was 6lb 14oz so little for a diabetic..

My second son was kinda the same.. not well controlled before falling preggy, but took good control while pregnant although not the same control as son #1 and then he was also born at 38wks by elective ceaser weighing 9lb 4oz though..

So ive had both sides of perfect/good control.. This time ive got perfect control too.. but its double as hard with 2 very active boys..

I have to count everything I eat and change my insulin according to that, so if i want something inbetween meals i have to have an extra jab which puts me off lol, I also test at meals and 2hours after meals to see what they are all doing.. Sometimes it is a PITA but its necessary for such a beautiful thing :)

Right, hope this has made sense to you and not too long ...

Feel free to PM me if u want to :)
