I'm posting this for LeeAnn who is due in March - she has only bookmarked her thread so she wanted to know if anyone else has, or has experienced this...

(copied from March 08 thread)
Hi guys,

Just lying on the couch not moving today, I went to the physiotherapist yesterday and I have been told that I have Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction which means I have to try to walk as little as possible while I'm pregnant Yah for me! I've still got 11 weeks to go, it's not fair. Has anyone else had this problem, the physiotherapist said it is quite commom!

LeeAnn

Oh yeah, I have this now, and have had it since 32 weeks, and I could barely move to start with. The first week is hell when you get it, and I find nights to be unbearable.

I got a support belt and tubigrip (also have seperated tummy muscles) and I find I can't wear them as they cut in tight into my belly. But they are meant to help support your bump whilst dealing with SPD.

You can't win with the whole sitting down as much as poss, some days I felt better trying to force myself to walk around and be active. Others not so.

yip i had this REAL BAD when i was pregnant with Astin!!! and i got a support belt, tubby grip, crutches (bed rest wasnt an option because i had a toddler and a husband who had just had an accident and needed caring for). I had it until Astin was 8 weeks old, i was given the tens machine for that.

:( does it mean you will get it again if you had it once?

Some people get it with every pregnancy. Since this is my first, I have no idea if I will get it again, but I am the same with the crying out with pain when I roll over.

I actually had it a lot worse with Jack than Caprece. With Jack it still hurt right up until I got pregnant with Caprece if I walked around too much. With Caprece I had a day when she was about 2 weeks old of agony and then it was gone after that.

Big hugs to all you ladies it hurts so bad.

We've got a good article on SPD here: http://www.ohbaby.co.nz/article.aspx?ContentID=1587 - http://www.ohbaby.co.nz/article.aspx?ContentID=1587

It's more likely but not definite. I had severe SPD with Maya, ended up on crutches, and mine started early, around 24 weeks, it's usually not till closer to 30.

Then with the gremlins I expected it to be worse as they were much heavier so I had physio from about 18 weeks, but in fact I only ended up getting it very mildly, nowhere near as bad as I did with Maya.

Am hoping this time round I will be as lucky, but I have already had a few telltale twinges that suggest my pelvic muscles are not supporting the joints as well as they should which is to be expected I guess by baby #4.

I won't give any tips for managing it coz I wrote the article in the link Katherine posted above (she had it too, poor thing!) so I'd be repeating myself, but do check it out coz there are some things which do help a lot.
