Since she was about 3 months old, my little girl has slept quite well thru the night - up until 2 weeks ago or so that is.
We have followed the same routine (most nights) for many months now - at around 8pm or so we change her nappy; feed her and place her in her cot (which has been in her room for over 2 months now); I read her a bedtime story, kiss her good night, put her mobile on and leave the room. She used to fall asleep by herself a little while later.
We also used to use a SafeTsleep but she wriggled too much so took that out.
In the last 2 weeks or so that has all turned to custard as she screams the moment we put her in her cot! I have taken her to our GP who has ruled out any (obvious) health issues and she certanly calms down quickly once we pick her up.
The one thing that seems to work like a charm is taking her for a ride in the car - she falls asleep in minutes and then stays asleep when we move her back to her cot. Once she's asleep, she sleeps thru the night.
We have been advised to try the CIO method but I totally hate doing that! We have tried to give her a bath as part of the bedtime routine and although she's more relaxed, it does not always work.
Has anyone experienced this and how have you solved it?

oh poor you - that totally sucks! I have no idea how to solve it (I can't get my wee girl to sleep at all), but all the best.

We also had to use the CIO method. It is really hard but in the long run it's so worth it (IMO). Hope you can work something out soon

We have just recently started to use the CIO method for the exact same reasons. Sam used to be an awesome sleeper and would be asleep as soon as you put her to bed, but lately well ARGGHH is the only way to describe it!
You can definitley tell by the cry with Sam whether it is fighting sleep and it has never gone on more than a couple of minutes before you get complete silence.

We did CIO as well. Once you can see that they are just playing you (stopping as soon as you pick them up) and you know every other possible need has been met, then I think its appropriate. You can always try the 'softer' methods tho - like going in every few minutes and pat her but not picking her up, staying in her room and moving further away.... Does she go off to sleep ok during the day?

The other thing you could change is to try giving her bedtime story before her feed.. ie feeding tends to make em nice and full and sleepy - so now she's a bit older, by reading to her after that, could be keeping her awake longer than needed instead of helping her go to sleep, leading to overstimulation or whatever.. she' thinks it's playtime isntead of sleep.

Though also she's at that age where the separation anxiety thing happens.. so just stick to your guns, try the CIO thing and go from there. trust me it gets easier and they learn fairly quick.. which is a huge help for once #2 comes along.. last thing you need is spending forever getting BOTH settled at night.

I was thinking the same as Janine, that she was overstimulated before sleep. Like if we read Daniel a story after his bottle he wouldn't go to sleep. I also wonder about the mobile too.. I find Daniel sleeps best when there is absolutely nothing interesting after his feed.

Just to confuse the issue I am not a fan of the CIO method and have never tried it. Jack used to sleep really well and that changed when he got his first cold at about 4 months. Since then each night is different and we have good nights and bad. I feed him to sleep and that has worked really well. Slowly we are moving away from that and sometimes I can get him to sleep by rocking and singing to him. I was also told that their sleep patterns etc will continue to change with all the milestones they go through such as teething, starting solids, crawling etc. I think that you just need to find what works for you and do that. If a short car ride works why not do that for now and try and slowly change it. If you want to try methods other than CIO then read Pinky McKay's book "Sleeping like a baby", it was a life saver for me (www.pinky-mychild.com). I got a copy from the library first, you might be able to as well. Good luck!

I'm not a fan of CIO but wanted to hear some opnions and get more options. Many ppl have recommended CIO IRL incl Plunket but I just can't bring myself to do it.
We tried feeding her to sleep tonight, an earlier bed time and then I cuddled her until she was asleep - worked tonight but will see tomorrow. No story no nothing.
Thanks for the replies
