I'm still fairly new to the Pill (as you might have guessed ) - how does it work with periods? If I'm not releasing eggs and not building up the endometrium layer in the uterus, then I don't quite get how I ought to have a period either?
Gee I can hardly wait for my period this time - I'm a few days off it and already getting cramps, I don't usually get cramps and I just wanna cuddle up with a blanket all afternoon Woe is me lol

because the sugar pills give you a 'pretend period'
Birth control pills
Birth control pills contain synthetic hormones similar to the estrogen and progesterone naturally produced by the ovaries. A daily dose of these two hormones, or progestin alone, suppresses the estrogen and progesterone produced by the ovaries and prevents the development and release of an egg. The pill also thickens cervical mucus, creating a barrier against sperm entering the uterus.
The pill and the menstrual cycle
A "pill period" is not the same as a menstrual period because it is controlled and regulated by synthetic hormones. Pill periods are usually shorter in duration, lighter in flow, and produce less cramping. It is not uncommon to miss a period or stop having periods while on the pill. However, if two consecutive periods are missed, contact a clinician.
sorry for long post..just easier than me trying to explain:)

Hey another question for anybody out there (lol) - I'm on CD 30 and tomorrow morning will be my 3rd sugar pill for this week - when is AF supposed to turn up exactly? And will it finish by or about the first yellow pill?

when on the pill, I would take first sugar pill on Friday, "AF" would normally show up on Monday-Tuesday, and be just starting to finish by the time I started active pills again, although sometimes would be longer.

Mine used to turn up on the 3rd sugar pill day and be gone about 3 or 4 days later.

Mine used to turn up on the 3rd sugar pill day too. Disappeared by the last sugar pill.

2 pills Is that for medical instead of contraceptive purposes?

I generally get my AF on the 3rd or 4th day and it only lasts 2-3days. Also I only get spotting every second month.
BTW when I had a months off the pill, AF returned 2 weeks later, was heavier and lasted 5 days.

You guys are lucky! I got mine on the 4th sugar pill day and I *think* it's finally finished, 12 hours after taking the first yellow

Busymum, I would get AF on the 3-4th sugar pill day, and it would last until I was about 3 days into the active pills again. So usually mine lasted 6-7 days. Everyone's so different. Oh I was on Estelle though (one of the highest dosage ones) so that could explain that.

what I loved about the pill was being able to skip a period, was so good when you didn't want to have one (like on your wedding night!)

Yeah could be. It has a lot more hormones so when you cut those out (on the sugar pills) it seems to put AF into overdrive. It's good though because it's so strong that the 'error' rate isn't as high as the mini-pill etc!

Wow maybe this is what I need to go on. 1 pill and I bleed like crazy so maybe the 2 might help and get no bleeding.
