Hi there,

I have been searching through the threads for help on this one, and haven't found an answer, but see that lots of you have been through this.

I have had 2 abnormal smears and have to have a colposcopy. I am booked in for Thursday. I just want to know what a colposcopy involves and what kind of effect it might have on me. Will I be able to drive myself etc..? I have an 8 week old

It shouldn't have any effect on you at all. You should be able to drive as you aren't having any drugs. Just don't watch the TV screen as that might make you a tad sick

It's never affected my driving..

It's just like a smear but they usually take a sample of your cervix which is uncomfy but not really painful.. like you wouldn't need painkillers or anything for it.

sweet as - just that no one really told me anything about it and I was wondering... My sister told me that her flatmate had one and was in bed for 3 days after - I wasn't convinced it could be the same thing but thought I better check...

If her flatmate really did have a colposcopy and needed to be in bed for 3 days, what a drama queen!!!! The first time i had it I was dumb enough to watch the tv screen next to me, that made me feel a bit yuck but that was the worst

Well now after all this I have got AF - first one since baby - and might have to postpone it anyway... nurse at hospital said to let them know how AF was on Thursday, they might do anyway if really light...

Good luck Bel. I had 2 done in 2004 and generally found the worst part was waiting for results. Like kebakat said a bit uncomfy . To be honest IF they do a biopsy it may be a tad more uncomfortable.
