To Scotland for a year, shes 17 and 7th form last year so shes gone to Scotland to do a gap year thing where she is a teacher aide at a high school. Shes been saving for years and is was so excited.
The really selfish thing is that I'm sooo upset she is pretty much my best/only friend these days. I know she will have the best time ever but I just can't stop crying She has a wee boyfriend who she spend pretty much every second with for the past 6 months and hes just as devastated. I feel like such a fool because its only a year.
Thanks for reading Ben thinks I'm just being silly

You aren't being silly at all... Sisters are the coolest thing.
Her going away is only for a year, and your relationship will be heaps stronger because of it!!

Get her to join bebo or another site like that. Its the best and easiest way for me to keep in contact with my sisters and for them to see my boys grow up.

You are so not silly!! I don't blame you for being upset, it's hard to let a best friend and loved one go off especially when you are so close!!

My BF lives in Germany (married a german guy) and it is hard with her living on the other side of the world.

Thanks for all the kind words, I feel like I've just broken up with a boyfriend or something lol I'm sitting here eating a chocolate santa looking at all her bebo pics.
Nooo don't say she won't come back, I'll go over and get her. I wouldn't be surprised if she decided to live there but maybe after she comes back here for uni or something. She really wants to get out and see the world, I'm the complete opposite and just want to stay close to my family.

*hugs* rach, its hard when people leave , no matter how long its for
But she will have the most amazing experience, and you should join facebook or something and you can update each other with your news each day .
And even tho a year seems so long, she'll be back before you know it,least you got something to look forward to, seeing her arrive at the airport again!

If it is any concilation (sry sp) - eventhough I was the one that went away when I was 18, this was always my home and it was also hard leaving but it was something that I had to do & I don't regret going at all (maybe regret the reason I went haha) but I did come home eventually and I came back a better, stronger person.
Just don't let her become distant and there are so many ways to keep in touch that shouldn't be a problem

awww hugs!
You're not silly at all.
And if you are, so am I!
My sister (3 years older) went to Greenland and London for a month last year. I missed her like crazy! (A MONTH, not a whole year!) The stupid thing is, she lives in AKL and I live in Tauranga, so we barely see eachother anyway
But the year will fly by, I'm sure

What part of Scotland is she going to? I lived in Edinburgh for 6 months and it was the most amazing experience, I love Scotland and have a soft sport for the Scottish accent too.
I'm sure your sister will have a marvelous time. Who knows if she decides to stay on, you can always go and visit.

awwww rach that sucks you are definately not being silly for not wanting her to go so far away for so long!! but a year does go by so fast these days so just remember that
it's so easy to keep in touch with internet and such, you could have a weekly meet-up online and swap gossip stories

Scotland is such a cool country. She'll have a ball, especially if she's gone to Edinburgh.
However, you can be sure the weather will make her wish she was back in NZ!!

Oh I feel for you. My sis lives in Oz but arrived with her family on Xmas day and is leaving again on Friday. I miss her so much. I know Oz isn't far away but we can't just pop over to see her like she is living down the road. When they lived here I would see her at least once a week. Sisters are the best aren't they. Hope your Sis has a fab time and bigs hugs to you I'm sure the year will fly by.
