Hi All! I'm back...!! And feeling pretty good after a difficult labour and birth, but anyway we're here (in 2 pieces, yay! Finally!)
Jackson Daniel, born 9.51am, 7lb10oz at CWH 7/1/08 Woke up to what I thought was me peeing myself at 2.20am on the 7th, waters trickled constantly (couldn't believe how much of that stuff there was!) and contractions started at 3.15am. They were 3-4 mins apart and all at least 45 seconds long. Had to wait until they were over 60 seconds to go to the hospital. By the time I couldn't bear the pain anymore (I think it was about 4.30ish when we got to the hospital) contractions were 2 mins apart, 80-90 seconds long and my god were they intense! Went on the gas but the m/w ordered an epidural straight away as she said there was no way I was going to last and I was only 3cm dialated so I probably would have passed out before the pushing without them giving me stronger drugs. I was more than happy to have one and can't recommend them highly enough (after never thinking I would have one). The epi stopped the contractions so they had to start them up again, I had all of the baby doctors, registrars etc in as bubs heartrate dropped significantly with every contraction and there was meconium in the waters. Not a very happy chappy. My top line of my BP was between 80-100 the whole time so I was constantly monitored as well. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I was checked at 9am and was fully dialated (had been for about 1/2 hour) and starting pushing (although had to be told as I couldn't even feel the pressure). He had to be delivered by ventouse as he was posterior and slightly angled, which meant he had massive swelling and a bad headache for the first day. Born at 9.51am to very relieved parents, weighing 7lb10oz (only took him 4 weeks to go from IUGR to average size!). Didn't get any skin-to-skin as he had swallowed a lot of gunk and needed to be cleared out. Apgars of 9, 10, and 10. No heart problems that 2 paeds have discovered so hopefully all is good there. Didn't feed much for the first day (wouldn't feed until 5pm the first day) and was very upset the whole first night. Settling in well now to regular feeds and sleeps a lot. He's the cutest wee thing, when I get a photo site I'll upload a pic in the piccy section. I've only got a few stitches so I'm pretty happy, and after the epi wore off I felt heaps better. DH is amazing and loves being someone's daddy. The whole birth experience wasn't nearly as bad as what I thought it would be (probably due to the epi). I'm loving being a mummy but am very very tired (but I knew that was part of the deal!). So all up 10 days of what they confirmed was baby trying to put me into labour but my body wasn't ready. Go EPO and sex! It works I tell you! |
