the surgeon said no!!!!! DH had his surgeon follow up appointment so he could give him the all clear to go back to work and we were so sure that he would say yes but he said no!!!!!!!! and he said hed be lucky if he got back within the next 6 months!!!  its been almost 8 months already and although it doesnt affect me as such (in fact is nice to have him home) DH is chomping at the bit to get back to work!!! he almost cried when the surgeon said no
When is it going to end!!!??? *lesson well learned...never chop off limbs*

OH thats terrible! Ive only been off work for two and half weeks now ... and Im bored to tears! Although once our new arrival turns up things may change And I have taken a note to remember not to chop off any limbs ------------- Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months) I did it .. 41 kgs gone! lol yeah when he first did it i though "ah he can pick himself up and go back to work" which is what he was thinking also! then when the surgoen gave him a temporary note to be off work for 6 WEEKS! i was gobsmacked! but 8 months and counting!!!!!! what was i thinking!!!????

He chopped off fingers didn't he Amber? Which ones? My BIL chopped some off a couple of years ago and was off work for close to 12 months. It was his left hand and he chopped off his ring finger completely (couldn't be stitched back on) and they managed to stitch his middle and index finger back but he has limited use of them. He took chunks out of his thumb and little finger but luckily didn't cut them off plus nerve and tendon damage to his hand. He got a nice lump sum payout from ACC though recently for a permanent disability for loss of limbs.

A guy at work smashed 2-3 of his fingers and one had to be chopped 1/2 off - from what I gather. The ring finger was the one that he lost 1/2 of

DH chopped off his thumb and half his hand (the palm part) and they managed to reattach it but as of yesterday the surgeon said that one of the major nerves (i think thats what it was!?) obviously didnt take and itsnt functioning! which is why his thumb still doesnt really move! and he also lost all the muscle and most of his thumb is still numb. The surgeon said that he doesnt want him going back incase he chops it off again without even realising!! and also the other day DH was holding Astin and his hand just gave out and he dropped Astin (he caught him by the foot with his other hand before he hit the floor) so its still not functioning! aaaarrrggghhhh!!! i so thought he would go back to work!!

Oh bummer Amber. But it does sound like going back to work with it how it is wouldnt be a great idea. He must be going mad tho, being at home, mine would be driving me mental by now!!  So do they have a plan to do anything else, or just wait and see? well hes had 5 months of hand physio and 2 months of all round gym physio and at the beginning he was making so much progress but then it all stopped and has been the same for 3 or so months now.
I asked if he would need a further surgery to fix it further but there isnt anything else to do apparently?? the surgeon said that it will either take a long time to get full or most function back or he wont get it back at all which is what scares me and him because if he doesnt get full function back then i cant see him being able to go back to building ever again which is his pasion!
I thought i would be nutts by now having him home but its been great!!!  hes helped out sooooo much with Astin and Bailey which i really needed so i guess thats the upside to the situation

Oh dear! Is there a hobby he can take up in the meantime? If he might not be able to be a builder again, what about being an inspector or architect? Would he like that, or too much paperwork/office -------------  |

busymum - he has though about other avenues but it never makes him happy and he would never be an architect because i am! lol and he is forever moaning about them/us ("builders are always having to fix the architects F*** U*S!! because they never think practical"!!! blahblahbloodyblah!).....
So anyway after all of that DH saw his ACC lady and then his physio guy and they both want him to go back to work because they think hes been off too long and not because hes ready to go back....so here we are with the shoe on the other foot now because over the last few days DH has had a few slip ups that has made him realise that hes not ready for work! maybe part time but not fulltime so we all have a big meeting on thursday to discuss it and now after getting his own way we are now going to have to fight for him to stay OFF work now! even though the money from him going back to work is very tempting right now! ... the grass is always greener ha!? ....

OMG Amber why have I only just sen this. How frustrating for you and your DH. I know that when I had DH home for a few months it was like my personal space had been taken over. Hopefully you can work something out with ACC. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

lol becks! its only a pitty party for one thread! lol im just frustrated for DH and trying to think practical at the same time...DH is actually really neat to have home! we tend to potter around the garden together during the day so i may miss that when he goes back

| yeah i think i might actually be lost when he goes back to work! i never had time to adjust to him actually being home in the first place with being 33 weeks pregnant, in false labour thanks to him! lol, and having to look after him for a good 4 weeks after the fact! |
