Hiya I the 1 with the crying baby(aimeejoy been asking for helpful advice for me).Im very new to this.Have never really been one for computers and the net.But think this will help me heaps.have been VERY stressed out.Brooke is my 2nd child so thought I'd have it all sussed but I deffinetly havent!!  Tonight I dad to leave Brooke to cry at bedtime for a whole hour before she finally went to sleep.we did give her a cuddle and put her back down again.feel mean but we have tried everything.like clockwrk she gets really upset at 4pm everyday.fine before that.trying to get her onto Gina Ford routine.started today and she wasnt as bad at 4pm...perhaps she has been overstimulated and is overtired in past??she has vacinations tomorrow so am dreading that ------------- Caleb 15/11/02 Brooke 14/11/05 |

Jacob was exactly the same from about 5 weeks, till about 3 months. Turns out he had colic and reflux. It was really awful, but it does eventally stop, although it is hard to put that in perspective at 4.30pm! I read a fantastic book called secrets of the baby whisperer, and used infant gaviscon, baby massage and one or two anti refulx formula bottles at night. Keep your chin up, girl, I know it is hard. The 0800 healthline is awesome as well, and harrass your plunket nurse. My doctor did give me some infant gaviscon to use but is such a mission to get into her when she screaming.it is one that has to be mixed in 15mls of water.is that what you used?would be easier if was just drops...did you find it helped??he has also given me his own wind mixture to use for her...doesnt seem to do much.....once she on a screaming mission it seems nothing will wrk......im really wishing I could roll the clock forward till she a bit older...its really weird though that she so happy during day...lots of smiles etc ------------- Caleb 15/11/02 Brooke 14/11/05 |

Aw Roxy, I don't have any advice but just wanted to say hang in there and it'll be OK. I wish I could come round and give you a break!!!

yeah thats what I had, also a wind mixture my doc gave me. I just mixed the gaviscon up and gave it to him with a syringe down the back of his throat. It took a few days, but eventually worked. I used to give him half the wind mix before the feed, and the rest halfway through. I found holding him over my shoulder and really patting his back hard (like a firm massage) pressed his tummy into my shulder and pressed the gas out, or I would lay him over my kneww, tum down and do the same. I even took him up to the after hours doc at hosp in the early days as the crying freaked me out, and he gave me some infant paracetemol, which I used a small amount if it was really bad (like still screaming at 9pm) ------------- The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P |

and give her paracetomal before her vaccinations. The neonates did this with the boys and my doc suggested i do it for following injections. So I gave it to them a couple hrs b4 they had the jabs and they were absolutley fine. Then I would give them another dose a couple of hours after. Made the whole experience alot more bearable for them and me!!

Hi. I know this isnt reccommended but Both my children have had tummy problems the first colic and the second GORD.

Hey Roxy Im trish and my son Bailey went through that from 3 weeks untill 13 weeks! He had gastroesophageal reflux and colic, the doctor gave me infant gaverscon (I mixed it with 15mls of warm water and gave it to him via a syringe afer every meal - worked wonders! BUT you must give it to her after EVERY MEAL for it to have a continued effect!) also we got ranitidine/zantac (helps to reduce stomach acid), Also I just brought some infacol drops and I found these to work (we tryed gripe water but it didnt work)!
As for her shots, give her some paracetomal about 1 hour before her shots another thing to do is elevate one end of her cot or bassinet! helps to keep the stomach acid down in there tummys and that way she might sleep a bit better too If you ever want to chat feel free to email me on trishandjamie4eva@hotmail.com All the Best Trish |

| hi Roxy. welcome to Ohbaby. Is there anyone who could give you a break for a few hours, as it sounds like you might need one. My husband and I used to take turns (well, still do actually) getting up with our little boy in the morning. So one of us can have a sleep in. (lewis' turn today). It actually makes life really lovely. I often don't sleep, but just lie in bed wrapped in a duvet and read. I know this won't help with your poor little one's reflux, but may make it a little easier to deal with. |

ooh i 4 got 2 say, like some of the others, i had the head of his bassinette elevated, and I let him tummy sleep during the day, (i was back and forwards ALL the time, so paranoid) found him being on his tummy at anytime really helped. ------------- The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P |

Hi Roxy Sorry i didn't see your post sooner I have been pre-occupied with family matters. Many breastfeeding mums have found it hard to administer the gaviscon. Use a syringe as suggested, you can get these at the pharmacy. Keep bubs elevated for up to half an hour after bubs feed, this gives the stomach some time to settle before being laid down. Elevate babies bed with bricks or blocks of wood, as this prevents so much acidic food being refluxed up the oesophagus. When changing bubs nappy, don't raise bubs legs up as this puts pressure on the stomach, instead tilt baby sideways to clean and place a clean nappy underneath. If the wind treatment is not easing things, try the Weleda colic powder, or if you are breastfeeding you take Fennel tablets and this passes through your milk. Many parents have found success with slippery elm as well. Hey guys I forgot to say that Ive started taking fennel tabs and maybe they are working cause she has been so much happier........has been bit naughty today though...just catnapping for 20min spells and been waking 3-5 times at night.........man she gets in such a rage if we leave her to cry for awhile.....I not good at the leaving to cry thing.......roll on Brooke hitting 6mths(I much more confident at that stage!) ------------- Caleb 15/11/02 Brooke 14/11/05 |

I have been having probs with Xanda the last couple of days. He sleeps alrite in the morns but come lunch time and he just won't go to sleep in the afternoons, he cries when we put him down and may go to sleep for bout 10mins but then wakes again and just screams. He won't take his dummy either, he just spits it back out. Last nite he settled at 9.30pm and slept rite thru to 6 this morning, i think he had really tired himself out.
