I've seen these around on various sites and they seem like a good idea, my little one is due mid summer but being the UK that could mean 15 degrees or 30 degrees! So I was wondering are sleeping bags okay from newborn, do you need a blanket as well or do you pop bubs in and just lay them down on a sheet in the bassinette, is it a case of either wrap or use a sleeping bag and finally would you recommend a particular brand of sleeping bag or are they all much of a muchness?

Look forward to your opinions and advices

My mum made me some sleeping bags for my boys out of polar fleece.

As newborns my boys were wrapped in a cot sheet and then once they were 3 months old they went into the sleeping bag.

My Josh was born Feb last year and it was a warm summer he was wrapped and only a sheet over him during the day but at night I put another blanket over him.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Perrrrrrrsonally I would make sure the sleeping bags are made out of a natural breathable fabric - cotton for summer or something like merino (lightweight for summer and heavy for winter) - synthetic fibres aren't so great as they tend to sweat. (Although in saying that I often wrapped Hannah in a fleece blanket and she was fine!)

I totally recommend GoGo Bags- made from merino and cotton. They have summer and winter weight ones.

I started using mine when both girls were about 2-3 months (both were summer babies so before that it was just a muslin wrap and sheet/light cotton blanket at night). I started using bags when they stopped being wrapped and getting a big wriggly in the cot and kicking off the blanket.

I love my Grobags, they are all cotton, and they make them in different tog ratings. They come with a thermometer and clothing guide so it's easy to work out how to dress them. Fay has been in one since about 6 weeks old, she was never wrapped and got really wriggly at that point and is still a blanket kicker. I know Grobags are much cheaper in the UK than here as well. Hsve heard good things about the GoGo bags too

We have a merino GoGo Bag and Gina hates it! She wriggles around, gets all tangled up in it and then wakes up screaming!
Lets hope bub #2 will get some use out of it as they are not cheap. Is there someone you know who has a sleeping bag that you could borrow? Maybe you could try one for a few nights before you fork out the money?

Gremlins were wrapped until about 5 months then into Grobags, I like them for the same reasons as Redbedrock, they are 100% cotton and breathable. We also have some 100% cotton Living Textiles ones in summer weight which they are in at the moment, I got them from the Sleep Store and they are cheaper than the Grobags.

My kidlets both had/have sleeping bags. 100% cotton and FANTASTIC! I have thicker ones for winter too. Only use them at night and thoroughly reccomend using them.

I'm just starting Cooper in his Go Go bag. I bought it because I like the idea of natural fibres and they regulate body temperature both hot and cold.

He still likes being wrapped though, so I've just started introducing it in his daytime sleeps.

Tyde wears his Peke Moe... and LOVES it...! I make them, so am a bit biased! but am getting lots of great feedback. I found it awesome for Tyde as he kept getting out of his swaddle/wrap but couldn't self settle.. he does in his Peke Moe.
