Ok so am I going to get one a few days before I go and pick DH up however i'm a little worried about the scars I have and getting it done.

So for those that get it done would my scars I have on the pubic line be a problem when I get it waxed? The scars are laproscopy scars.

Have you had one before?

I can make one suggestion; this is what my beauty lady told me:

If you've got an electric razor, shave as close down to the skin as possible, then put baby powder on the area. It does work, and I don't think you'll have any discomfort. I don't have any scars there, but I can't imagine that there would be pain... how old are the scars?

Scars are coming up 3 years old now.

Dh has taken the electric razor away with him. I haven't had one before but done it with a razor before. This time I want it to lat a little bit longer.

I got some vouchers for Christmas to get one from DH...what a bit hint. So just how painful are they??? And what is the process??????

I was sort of annoyed at DH for getting me one, especially as I thought it was a voucher for a facial.

They don't nearly as much as you'd think.
I was more embarassed being naked from the waist down in front of the beauty therapist.
The results were certainly different.

Becks - I got my first brazilian done in September, and my lap was in July. I just asked her to be a little careful around the scar, but it hasn't been a problem at all.

The first one is the worst!! The more regularly you get them done the easier they are, as the hair grows back sparser each time. The one time I went 6 weeks between I felt it (my hair grows fast though) - almost like my first time (which was pretty bad because I had been shaving which makes the hair grow in funny directions) but now I get it done every 4-5 weeks and it's fine!!

Yep the best advice is to trim first so its not long hairs they are pulling out! And it is a bit embarrassing, but they should use towels to drape so you arent totally nakie. I have only ever had it done with a g-string on - some places I just used my own old yucky one, other places have paper disposable ones. Will definitely be doing it again once this baby is out

Eeek, Im too scared, tried to do it myself once with nads(just the front area and a little bit down the sides but not right underneath, was scared Id take away more than pubes!!!)
I got a REALLY bad ingrown hair right on my vjj flap(TMI!) and I couldnt hardly walk! It was hell Id never wax down there again omg the pain...I still cringe to think about it!

BUT, I am training to be a beauty Therapist and we ALWAYS put talc on the skin before we wax, it helps to stop the wax sticking to the skin.

Where did you go Fleury?

I think I might trim it before I go so there isn't that much to take off.

right next time there's a 2 for 1 deal it's all go. actually is that place even still in downtown anymore? so palmy ladies where's good places to go? studio 31 isn't too bad price, $67 first then $37 thereafter.

Gosh that's quite a big difference in price than up here... it was $65 first time and $55 thereafter. BUT if you get your eyebrows or any other part of you waxed you get the lessor free...

Make sure you get it done around 10 days after AF, doesn't hurt as much

Yeah I know but I wouldn't of seen DH for 6 weeks that is more important to me.

I ain't going to Studio 31, I had a bad leg waxing experience there so I swore I would never go back there again. I'll go for a walk and see if the downtown place is still going and doing the 2 for 1.

I went to Studio 31 twice but that was before I found out the difference between hot wax and warm wax.

I now go to Lets Face It they are doing all my beauty work for my wedding.

DEF DEF DEF trim so the hairs are VERY short, its so much easier for them to do and FAR less pain for you.
Also take 2 panadol half hour before hand - thats the tip they gave me when I had my first one and it works wonders.

Honestly it doesnt hurt that much and you soon get over being embarrassed because they will make you feel so comphy.

I've given birth twice and had so many smears and other things there that you would think I would be ok with it all. I think it would be easier if I didn't know the person doing it.

Its the pain factor that I need to get my head around. Great tips though, sort of thinking I can do it. Maybe what I should do (and make DH pay) is get the Brazilian done, followed my a facial and pedicure. Hmmm. Just remembered, my voucher is for Wax n Laser. Has anyone gone there?

I used to get them done all the time right up until DD was born, then after I tore during birth I put it off (understandably) and 16 months later haven't been back. Am sitting here thinking I really want to get one done now, I really like them. Will have to trim first! (Sorry, TMI!). The place I go has never used talc, but does do the paper g-string and towel draping thing. They are really good.
They advise you to do a gentle exfoliation down there once or twice a week as maintenance to avoid ingrown hairs. Last I checked it was $50 for the first, not so much after that.
The first one I got done years ago was because the beauty parlour downstairs from my office at the time did a 50% off deal on brazilians when Brazil won the soccer world cup! Hee hee! There were many ladies from the office trying to duck out discreetly and then walking slowly back in about 3/4 of an hour later (those who had their first, anyway).

ETA: I haven't noticed it itching with regrowth, maybe when it gets a bit longer but not the initial stage, if that makes sense?

man am i the only one on this site (or in NZ) that does nothing down there? I didnt realise it was soooo common to ummm 'groom' I would love to but Im to embarassed! Plus and this is just my personal little issue, why do guys like it so much? I worry that its trying to make grown women look like little girls, isnt that bordering on perverted. Ok im know im probably totally thinking of it the wrong way and im not trying to insinuate your hubbies/partners are dirty old men but well....I just cant get past that. My thoughts jump between wanting to do it for my hubby (not that he has asked) to being worried that he might actually like it which brings me back to the whole looking like a child thing.... someone tell me im being silly

lol nope thoughts that have momentarily gone through my head too - it's the ponderances of all things guy that are just plain weird. Reality is - for some it might be that - hopefully very few. For others i think it's just for something outta the ordinary.. and well probably because that's the images they may have seen in certain 'publications' - which makes it apparently hot.

lol
far too much brain work in that.

Ok so i just asked for a man's opinion and hubby says it's cos when you are down there it's nice not having hair in the way. lolol - lol i spose it's a bit like whether you like your guy clean shaven or don't mind him having a beard, lololol it's not trying to make him look like a kid again - it's just tidier and nicer to be close to.

maybe we should all just dare each other to go get one and not chicken out. lol pick a date and all go. he he - that way we all know that somewhere out there someone else is going through the same pain and embarassment at the same time.

(ok does that just sound a bit weird and creepy)

I also found from a hygiene perspective it was fantastic being 100% clean down there.

And realising the last time I didn't have anything was before pubitiy was weird.

Another guys opinion (as I've discussed this with DH in the past): He couldn't care less what I do down there grooming wise. It doesn't bother him in the slightest. The one opinion he does have is that he doesn't like it when theres nothing down there cause it makes a chick look like a little girl.

Date Posted: 14 January 2008 at 8:50am
Yeah my DH seconds that Stace - I always get a strip so its not little girl like.

It doesnt itch at all when it grows back.

Honestly you girls wont know your self once you get it done!

Get this, I couldnt get a smear because I was to shy, but I can get brazilians! Crazy eh, anyway my sister found this out and MADE me get a smear, I know so naughty that I hadnt had one! I found a smear A LOT harder to get done than a brazilian. I felt WAY more comphy getting a brazilian done, so if you can get a smear you can easily get the hair wipped off promise girls!

A great place to go in Christchurch is Wairaki Road Hair Studio they are very reasonable, they use the talk powder too so it doesnt hurt as much.

Good luck girls!

Ha, I'd rather have a smear or colposcopy over a brazillian

Posted By: T_Rex

Isobels in palmy is great. My view is that it hurts like crazy when they actually rip the strip off, but then it stops, so coming from a total pain wuss, its not that bad! Sure it hurts, but its over pretty quickly, so I just keep telling myself that its nearly done... and then it is! Also, at Isobels, they give you a little paper gstring to wear. Its extremely ugly, but it does make you feel less exposed!
I wouldn't recommend studio31, they try and rush you through so it so I hear it hurts more than anywhere else.
Sorry Trish... can't help you on a Chch option.

The place I used to use doesn't has shut down so I can't help u there Trish.

It doesn't itch and it grows back heaps softer, its amazing.

I do it for me, I don't really like any excess body hair and I like how clean it makes me feel. Ben didn't care when we first got together but now loves it and is more inclined to go down there if theres nothing there IYGWIM
