Hey ladies,

I was wondering if any of you have gone through this? I just got a call from my midwife to inform me the my ferritin and haemaglobins are worringly low, despite taking Ferrograd-Folic, Floradix AND folic acid (hoping that it would aid in the absorption of iron... Well clearly not, in my case)

My haemaglobins started at 134, so brilliant... They've now dropped to 91, not so brilliant. And my ferritin is reading 4.1 - So yeah, I'm pretty damn anemic now, which the midwife's not happy about.

Anyways, she's putting me in hospital overnight for this thing she called an 'infusion' and basically I'll be put on a drip and it'l' bring my levels back up and hopefully restore some of the stores so that I'm not having to have such a controlled labour and birth (incase of haemmoraging etc)

I was just curious as to whether any of you out there have gone through this procedure, and if so, whether you found it really beneficial?

Apparently it's not a procedure that's used very often, but has been done enough times to know that it can be effective.

Baby's doing wonderfully, Midwife's really happy with her progress, but the little moo-cow is completely zapping me of everything! Lol
Any thoughts or experiences would be much appreciated - thanks!

Kinda annoying that I'm having to go into hospital so close to d-day knowing that I won't be coming home with a baby

I haven't had to do that, but I have had a series of Iron jabs to get my levels back up.

i haven't had it done but i give Iron infusions on an almost daily basis - not really heard of it in pregnancy but that's not my field. Depending on what they are planning to give you, I assume it's overnight to ensure there are no reactions, as we give our infusions over an hour. My patients find it beneficial as it assists in treating chronic anaemia
