OK so hubby and I are a wee way off trying (end of this year), but what should I be doing before we begin to try. I know I should be taking folic acid, but is there anything else?

Do I have to take it for 3 months, or is some of the folic acid that I am already getting enough through diet alone, ie can I start taking it now, and trying now as well.

3 months is the recommended length of time, but lots of people find out they are pregnant and havn't been taking it and all turns out fine

I am doing well, a little scared to be honest at the thought of trying, so used to trying not to get pregnant that it seems weird to be preparing to do so.

I've made a list for me which might help you:

*dental checkup (no xrays while preggers)
*taking folic acid and prenatal multivitamin
*Reading up as much as I can
*Blood test to check immunity for Rubella
*Losing weight (makes conception easier, reduce risk of pregnancy diabetes, & look cuter pregnant too!) Also get used to healthy diet.
*doing kegal exercises down there
*Plan stopping of birth control methods.
*Saving some money for the baby accessories like clothes, furniture….

Good luck.
I'm trying starting next week too

aside from the dental check up, all is taken care of for us. started reading stuff about a year ago, and have Paws little treasures mags to steel, blood tests were done the other week when I was late, happy to say I don't have hep A or syphilis, losing weight, well getting there, birth control was stopped just under a year ago, and pregnancy vitamin I havbe been on for 3 weeks now.

Good luck Chaucey, and don't forget to let us know how you go!

I loved the Little Treasures mag, but some of the other stuff I read had me so worried and nervous about the whole thing.

The best book I read was NZ pregnancy, was a NZ book so was specific to things in NZ and how things are done. I think you can to a degree get too informed which can cause stress to the point where it would also seem scary to breathe!

And "some people" can be a touch too helpful

" i know a woman who had a 25 pound baby and exploded while givnig birth...."

Count me in the 'too informed' basket - a hazard of the job unfortunately - I get paid to put together all the info you all read on OhBaby!
