we are going up north in october and i was just booking flights to wellington for us all on airnz.....a child is over 2yrs, an infant is under 2 and free of charge...charli will be 2yrs & 2wks old, so we were going to book her as an infant to save $88, but now we're not sure if you need to produce id to say she's under 2   we don't have much $$ so want to save where we can, but on the other hand, we don't want to come across any unexpected problems because of it......help!

what would you guys do?

They ask for birth cert for the children. I know its rough but i wouldnt risk it as If they want you to produce B cert and you cant you might not be able to board and lose all your tickets. Ekk sorry to be a downer but honesty is the best policy as Karma is always lurking in the wings

does it say that on the terms and conditions? because i got as far as selecting flights etc and it doesn't mention anything about proof of age...

we don't want to get caught out, but we don't want to pay more than we have too

why couldn't DH's bro just get married 3wks earlier and then we wouldn't have a problem!!!   lol

i think we'll just have to pay the extra......which will suck because she'll most likely want to sit on my knee the whole time anyway!

I checked my conditions and yes, it does say that if they are unsure of the age you will be asked for a birth certificate and if you cannot produce one then you will not be alowed to board.

Bummer aye!

We have to go to the family reunion in Ox - if it was this xmas, no worries, but it is next xmas so she will be 2 1/2. Bummer again!

Yeah we were nutting this out with our trip to Fiji latet this year. Our tickets were $780ish each and his was almost $600 and he will probably sit on Rods knee the whole way... Charly wil sit on mine, she will be about 18mo.

Sorry but official word as an airline employee....check in have the right to ask you for proof of age...and then charge you whatever the lowest airfare is at the time of check in assuming there are even seats left...in other words it could end up a lot more expensive.

And I have recently dealt with a customer who couldn't provide proof of age and she was forced to pay for a seat for her 1 year old.

Not worth the risk...sorry babe.

Only 2 weeks over - that's a bummer. I wouldn't take the risk either but can you maybe the ring airline and see if they'd be keen to agree to something?
