Hmmm.... as second baby is due in May and first bub will only be 23 months we need to start thinking about carseats.
The one we have for our daughter can be used until she is approx 5 years, it was one she could use from birth.

Do we (for second bub) hire a capsule from Plunket (any idea of what this costs) or do we bite the bullet and buy another birth to 5 seat? But..... I really like the idea of a capsule especially having the two kids, would make life easier to just be able to lift it out and go??

Any ideas??

What I'm planning on doing (TTC with a 17month old atm) Is buying a convertable booster for DS (9kgs-36kgs) so it can be used alot longer - usually they have straps on the seat for the toddlers, then the car seat belt when they're older, and then you can remove the back so it's only a partial booster. Alot of kids still need a booster at 7-8 years old, and they're no more expensive than convertible seats. (cheaper maybe, in fact)

I hadn;t thought about it that way (buying the next one up for Miss Toddler), still liking the convenience of a capsule though.... that way I can carry that in one hand and hold my daughters hand in the other opposed to having to get baby out, get pram out, put baby in, possibly wake baby and at the same time contend with Miss Toddler wanting to get out of the car immediately!! Oh the joys!!

If you're planning on having another bub maybe buy a capsule, if not - hire is probably the cheaper option.

We hired out capsule from BF for six months, and then he'll go into Nyah's carseat. It's handy having the capsule, especially when he's fallen asleep.

I hired a capsule from Plunket and used it for about 10 months. Cost me about $60 for that time.

I brought mine. My capsule was $119 and has been used 3 times now. I was lucky and that when Josh needed to carseat Andrew was going into the booster. So worked out weill for us.

I was at plunket about a month ago and the lady there was sorting out a hire for a woman and it was $80 I think from memory.

you could also hire the snap and go wheels for the capsule if you wanted too, so you don't have to carry it everywhere. I think if you hired both it would probably cost about $150 for 6 months.

Just had a look on Baby Factory's website. They hire a capsule and base for $85 for 6 months.

I have a hired capsule from Plunket and it cost $105 all up (incl bond) and you get back $50 dollars when you return it if it's in good clean condition

I actaully hated using a capsule - Gina looked so uncomfortable in there and in kind of a strange C shape! We switched to a safe n sound rear facing seat when she was 4 months old and have never looked back!

I wouldn't have been without capsules, they were so convenient when the gremlins were tiny. I hired theirs for $60 and was gutted to find out that the Baby Factory sell ex-rental capsules for around the same price. I could have bought them then made some $$$ back reselling them on TM later. Thats what I'm going to do with this bub.

Maya has the Cosco Alpha Omega convertible booster and it's really good too, she's been in it since she was 2.

I think the capsule hire varies from town to town but it is pretty well priced. When we had #2 I loved having a capsule. Like you say, when we were up town I could carry a capsule and hold her hand etc so it was pretty easy. However if you are likely to have a long baby, I'd scrap the whole idea. Kryssi was very tall and would have outgrown a capsule at only about 4mos, from memory.

If I were you, I'd hire a capsule for 6mos (I think most do up to 9mos depending on height and weight) and buy a booster seat with 5 point harness at that point for your toddler.

different plunkets have different hire out rates - recommend you shop around as I got mine for $50 for 12 mths & got $20 back as deposit when returned, hired for 6mths then just rang & extended time at no extra cost.  with #2 got a capsual for a few mths then got a booster for #1 and put carseat backwards for #2
