So I thought I'd be brave and start this topic, as I mentioned in another thread - about how old we all are, and consequently, what sorts of things we grew up with. You don't *have* to tell us exactly how old you are of course, if you're not comfortable with it, you could perhaps just contribute by telling us what sorts of toys you played with, food you ate, TV shows / movies you watched etc.

However, I'll get the ball rolling shall I? I'm 23, and will be 24 on March 24th this year (so I was born in 1982).

I grew up with a lot of things that would be a bit different from some of you guys, having not moved here to NZ until I was 13. (Went through high school and uni here too.) TV shows for me in Canada included stuff like The Polka Dot Door, Mr Dressup, Canadian Sesame Street, Sharon Lois & Bram, and a few more that will probably come to me later !

I pretty much knew early on that I wanted to have a baby in my early / mid-20's, but of course also knew I'd have to wait for the right man among other things ! Despite somewhat of an element of 'surprise', I mostly feel ready as far as where I am in life.

Anyway, I look forward to all your responses / stories ladies !! Bring it on !! *chuckles*

Hi there, well I'm currently 21 turning 22 on the 4th of March, I was born in 1984.
I grew up in West Auckland (yeah I'm a Westy!), until I was in my early teens when we moved more north west to Muriwai on the outskirts of Auckland.
There I was introduced to the "rural" life.
I don't remember too much about things on tv, or music, or anything really that didn't involve animals.
I was never really much into that kind of stuff.
Met my man, Spencer, when I was 17 & he was 20 (he's now 25) and luckily he is into the rural life too so we are happily living on an 800 cow dairy farm, with our son Alex & son #2 on the way

I'm 28 (29 in July) I'm originally from London - been in NZ for about 5 1/2 years now. I met hubby when he was doing his O.E (sucker for the Kiwi accent lol) and came back here with him in '99.

We're now in West Auckland and waiting for the rest of my family (mum, dad, sis, her fiance & the dog) to join us here - shouldn't be long now!

I mostly remember tv shows like Sesame St and the Smurfs, oh and Pod and the Moomins LOL
Music wise would be all the nasty boy bands "Take That" and "Blur" etc But I did own a 45" record of the Smurfs theme song that went with my Smurfs record player!    I also remember that melting in the sun LOL.

I really missed the food from back home like decent tom sauce and crisps until I found a shop in Browns Bay - Now I pop over and treat myself once in a while. Mostly miss the clothes shopping and the nightclubs (will I ever grow out of that?!?! *probably not!*)

Well, so far, I am the old lady of you lot, turning 31 (dont tell anyone..) on st paddys day, the best day for a birthday, if you like drinking beer. (except when you plan a huge boozy blow out for your 30th, then get pregnant..)
I'm a reformed party girl, who grew up obsessed with "hair bands" and Duran Duran, all my adolescent dreams came true when I got to see them live with Robbie a couple of years ago. Was in 4th from front row, and bawled my eyes out the whole time (except when I was flashing my pre breast feeding boobies at John Taylor) Am still a dirty old rock chick at heart, though..
Was born in Christchurch where I lived till age ten when we moved down to Invervegas, and moved to Blen when I was 23. met and hooked up with Rod at 27, didn't want kids, but he changed my mind, and now want 4.
I remember when popsicles were 8c and I could get my mums winny red 25s and a packet of star wars chewing gum for under $2, and 50c at school on friday bout 2 bits of fish and chips, and 20c bought a pie or a bag of chips... Ahh, those were the days!

Well, I'm 25... born in 1980 in Tauranga, where I lived until I was 8 and we moved to Taupo. When I was 12 we moved to Katikati where I went to high school. In 1999, I went to uni in Wellington for a year, then moved to Blenheim (where my family now was) for a year off to clear my head. I found out I was pregnant at the end of that year, and so I followed my family up to Hamilton where I had Kiya. We lived in Hamilton until July last year, when Nathaniel got a job in Ohakune.

Yeah, I've moved around a bit! And within each town I lived in more than one house! I think I've lived in around 20 places in my life!

I remember Jem and Rainbow Bright, umm... 3:45Live, Simon and Catherine on "What Now!" and Jason Gunn with Thingee.

I'm 21 and grew up in Rotorua. Lived in a few areas but call Hamurana home, my Dad's house which is a lifestyle block which is more like a minifarm as Dad is a farm consultant and misses having animals.
I remember Jem, Fraggle Rock, Playschool, Sesame Street and My Little Pony.
I don't think I watched that much TV though as we were always playing on the trampoline, having adventures in our swamp or reading.

I've since spend a year and a half down in Dunedin at uni and now a year in Wellington. Would love to bring Hannah up in Wellington. It's lovely!

I am 23, 24 in March. I was born and grew up in Dannevirke. Met Daniel at high school (been together since we were 17) and shifted to Auckland for uni. Was up there for 5 years (Toni we lived at Muriwai - so miss it), then moved to Hastings for a year, and have now been back in Dannevegas for about 6 months.

I remember all those programmes like 3.45live, smurfs, i loved Jem, basil brush, sooty and sweep, playschool... Oh the kids programmes just arent the sameany more!

I used to love riding my bike and spending all summer at the school swimming pool. My brother and sister were a lot older than me and were teenagers in the eighties so I got to hear a lot of the music of the time - I have records by Madonna, Kylie.. oh and Tears for Fears Oh the shame...!

I just turned 25 on the 30 December, feeling pretty old . But not as old as Willie who will be 47 in April...

We moved around a lot when I was younger, I was born at St Helens and brought home to Mt Roskill, then lived on the Shore, then to Sydney, back to the Shore, over to Remuera, then Greenlane, then Grey Lynn, back to Remuara, back to Sydney, then back to Orakei, then to Glen Innes, then over to Manurewa, back to Orakei, Glen Eden for a little while, then to Mt Albert, and I finally ended up in Avondale (for now anyways ). All up I think I have lived in somewhere around 17 houses.

We moved a fair bit because of my Dad's job, but I also spent some time in girls homes when I was a teenager which meant moving around, and I spent a short time in a refuge when I was pregnant with Maya (very long story).

I remember Cabbage Patch Kids (I got one when I turned 5), Jem, What Now with Simon and Catherine (LMAO Becca), not being allowed to watch Dirty Dancing when it came out on video and sneakily watching it at my cousins when Mum was out, and the very very early Home and Away (when Sally was like 8).

Oh and we didn't own a TV until I was nearly 5 and we were given one, and we weren't allowed to watch it except for 1/2 hour a day - we used to watch My Secret Valley (in Sydney, don't know if they ever had it here). But Mum had 4 of us under so we kept each other entertained.

I can also remember being able to buy 2 packets of cigarettes for $10..

I am 26 yo, born 1979) and was born in Germany but raised in Takaka (tiny spot in Golden Bay next to Nelson...) moved to the big smoke Nelson when I was 14... Studied in Wellington then moved to Germany for 5 years (met hubby there) we came back almost exactly a year ago and we are currently living in Wellington. We have a 5 month old son Josef.

I remember playschool (didn't you have fun spotting the presenters on shortland street later on!?), 3.45 live, what now (fifi rocked!), after school (stay cool!), MACGYVER!!!!!, wwf wrestling (yeah tito santana!)...

But really spent most of the time at the beach, riding friends horse, building huts in the bush, playing with all the other kids in the street....

It was becasue of my great childhood that I persuaded my hubby to move to NZ because I want to give that chance to our children. I hope it's still out there!!

My poor dad is such a fashion disater. Luckily my step-mum got him out of the brown suede flared suit he had for years.

What about the wombles?! Who remembers them! And snap bangles, they were the sh*t! Also garbage gang cards and I always wanted a cabbage patch kid but never got one!

Hi i'm new here, i like cruising mummy forums!

I'm 23, 24 in april and have an 8 week old son. Live half and hour from Palmy, 10 minutes from Foxton on a dairy farm. Grew up on a sheep and beef farm just north of Taupo, ran away and joined the circus when i was 17 (well, carnival, so almost) then got sick of that 3 years later and went milking cows, got married to the love of my life last Feb and got preggars shortly after that

oooh i remember all that stuff - my sisters listening to all the "hair bands" and now i like them all - sadly. collected millions of garbage pail kids cards - and the batman movie cards. what about those bangles with the glitter fluid in them that cot recalled cos they were toxic or something! ooh and rainbow bright!
am 23, turning 24 in march, have 2 girls - aged 2 and half, and 8 months - and hello - miss paris my 2 yr old - has all the things i had when i was little - its spooky - carebear, my little ponies...argh - jelly bangles by the dozen... and much more - argh i did have all these ideas while i was reading other posts - but now can't remember them - am definately and 80's kid.

by the way - tried on a pair of skinny leg jeans the other day - since they are back in again - and YUCK! no way. am soooo glad i was young enough to get away without those - i just had the zinc, in a little pot that attached to your sunnies - which also had fluro bits on them, and i had those 3 piece sets with the cycle shorts - flowy skirts that went right up when you twirled, and the singlet top - spandex... all spandex. lololol

oh yeah - and i was having a night at home when mike went away the other weekend - so, got out dirty dancing on dvd cos i felt like watching it - cos i hadn't seen it in a while - funny, i never remember it being so corny - and jennifer grey can sooooo not act - no wonder she didn't make it that big! lol

29 (30 in a couple of months )

Muppets, playschool, records of stu wilson (nice one stuey), puff the magic dragon and bad jelly the witch. I loved the wombles, and the smurfs when i was a little older.

Clothing i remember from when i was a kid is barter bullets, frienship bracelets that you platted and gave to friends.

Singing under the bram bushes hand slap game. Skipping and making huts in trees. BULL RUSH and stuck in the mud.

Okay i know i know i went to a country school. I also rode my horse to school and left it in the horse paddock some days.
