hi ladies
I just dished a nice bowl of Kapati ice cream lemonmerage flavour! for DH and thought out of curiosity would look at the ingredients and it has egg in it....so thought to be on the safe side that I better have a toffee pop instead  (and I wonder why my shorts hardly fit!) anyway.....can you eat things like this with egg in it but frozen? are there any other products out there with hidden egg aside from mayo etc?

Wow, I'm not sure about the ice cream, but I know that commercially prepared mayos etc. are safe coz they are heat treated and have preservatives. It's only fresh mayo that's a no-go, as is fresh hollandaise, bearnaise etc. sauces. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Gee I think I would say it's a no go cause is that not the trouble with soft serve it has raw egg base I would assume some ice cream is the same if I am wrong please someone teel cause that ice cream is so good. ------------- Deborah Mum to:

Soft serve is powdered egg so safe from that perspective but it's the way it's stored in the machine that makes it not safe, as well as the potential for bacteria growth in the machine due to poor cleaning. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

You would think it should be ok as its been frozen at the wrong temp to grow bacteria. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

I guess it depends how the ice creanm is made too, is the egg cooked prior to freezing or is it raw. It's the raw egg that is part of the problem, rather than any egg, as well as storage and handling. Good icecream is generally made with a cooked egg custard, but i guess it's up to you how you interpret that risk.

If it's been cooked it's generally fine.

I guess all things with custard are another thing to beware as custard has eggs to filled donuts, truffles etc are out.

ive always been told(by mw) that icecream is fine.. and all icecream has cream cause its been pasteriused first ..but hmm not sure about egg in it. (except cream freeze as everyone says) ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

Thats good to know about the custard - I cant stand the taste of icecream at the moment so has been replaced with custard for desert mmm... custard... -------------
