...on a decent pair of walking/running shoes? DH & I have recently started going out for bush walks etc (mini hikes) - about an hour's walking through bush on gravel etc path with slopes etc - and we've decided that our shoes are too cheap for decent walking like that and are just going to hurt us in the long run. How much would you spend on shoes for weekly walks like that? (I'm trying to justify $250!!)

For that at least $200 so long as they are the right brand.

$100 would be my limit at the absolute most!

It also would depend on where you were getting the from. I'm more likely to wait for an expensive pair to come on sale and then buy them.

I do a lot of walking and I would usually spend around $150 for a good pair. Anything over that just seems like way too much for shoes.

I've gotten running shoes fitted and they cost me $200.

I had tramping boots too which don't fit 100% and after 3 days walking around Lake Waikaremoana I would have loved to have chucked them after the first day.

I would definitely pay decent money to get proper fitting shoes.
And if it so happens that the shoes that fit cost $250 then they'd be worth every cent. IMHO

I would have said around $150-$200 if this is the sort of thing you are doing reguarly and will get the use out of the shoes for.

I would recommend paying the most you can afford for a decent pair of shoes if you are going to be doing lots of walking/running.
Cheap running shoes aren't good for your feet.

I usually spend between $100-$200 on running shoes.
I'm a $30 shoe girl too but not for running shoes I've seen too many foot problems caused by wearing cheap shoes.

I spent about 150ish on mine, I just kept trying shoes on until I found the most comfy, it just happened to cost that much.

I bought a pair of sketchers which are just awesome, so comfy and have lasted for ages. I did get them in the States for about $30 but here they can be anywhere from $130 upwards.

I feel its worth it for comfort, I am past the stage of having sore feet!

I'd weigh in here, but I think you know what I'd say

We do a lot of walking, hill work etc, and we both buy very good shoes because it makes it easier, both of us need the ankle support and I get shin splints (sp?) if I'm not wearing good shoes. Not to mention that generally, they last longer.

My mum does a lot of walking, she does races and stuff too and she would probably spend at least $200 on a decent pair of sneakers and they last her a long time. If you want them to last you will need to get good quality ones and usually means $180 +

Yea, its not good for your feet, nor your back to do too much exersise without proper foot support... But then I really look after my (diabetic)
I spent $250 on my lat paid and they were so worth it! I had been experiencing moments of numb feet so went out and replaced my old pair with a pair that felt like they were made for my feet..

If you think about how much you wear them and divide that by the price it doesnt seem so bad. A $200 pair worn once a week costs $3.85 per wear. Compare that with a pair of $30 shoes that you might only wear once or twice for special occasions and the $200 ones sound pretty good. I can justify any purchase!

About $250 odd dollars, we need to look after our feet as we only get one set and they have to last us around 100 years! Thats how I justify spending the money on good quality running shoes

Yep Peachy just what i was going to say. We too have started going out for walks etc and i am finding i may need something better than i currently have.

I definately think better shoes means healthier feet - my work shoes are $120 a pop and i am in desperate need of new ones.. they used to be super-soft now they're super flat and my feet and legs are paying the price.

Go for it Teresa.

I'm a great beleiver that running shoes are really really important so I would be OK with spending $250. You do want them to be really quite good and provide the right support
