Joy has just woken from a nap with blue-ish coloured legs from the knee down plus a couple of red patches (that look like heat rash)...Is it because she is cold or is it a circulation thing or something else?

That sounds quite strange. Does she have a temp at all? Perhaps ring the Healthline, see what they say.

Seems to be normal. She's smiling etc and playing.

Are they kind of mottled? like your hands go in winter? cos if so Spencers legs get like that all the time, normally when he wakes up and then once he is up and wriggling around it goes.

Yeah, they were pretty normal looking by the time she went back to sleep...so maybe just a circulation thing.

Probably he slept on them funny but keep an eye on it because if it recurs or he tires too easily, you should get his heart checked by your GP.

Definately i second what Teresa said.   My nephew used to be like that (reallly bad and never went away though), he had alot of other problems that signalled it too but he had a bad heart prob that they only finally found when he was 7mths old and near heart failure.

Paris used to be a bit of a blue baby sometimes and i always thought it was just circulation as it's well known our family has bad circulation probs, anyway long story short, they finally found a heart murmur at 15mths, we spent forever trying to get her refered and just around her 3rd birthday we found out that she has a heart valve problem.

I also remember not too long ago another lady posting the same thing and she had her girl checked and they found a heart murmur or something similar

Anyway, It may not be all doom and gloom but better to go and find out, otherwise it will just eat at you anyway til you know for sure.

Way to freak me out!!!!!

Would the gp not pick up a major heart problem at the normal check ups? cos they always listen to his heart. Plus he has been seen by a paed as well who listened (we weren't there for that but he gave him a thorough check over as part of the appointment).

I'm pretty sure it is nothing, only seems to be when I have put him to bed in just a bodysuit and he certainly doesn't tire easily.

That probably is just the cold when they are mottly, it's if they are nicely blue, up to the knees or elbows etc then i would worry. eg, we used to have fights over who was going to go check on paris when she was a baby cos when she was in a deep sleep she was almost bluey white in colour and she breathes really shallowly..

Paeds checks should pick things up.
In saying that, it was only by chance that one doctor picked up paris's murmur around 15mths when we were told it was still probably nothing. On and off for the next year different docs would hear it and when i asked to check at the next visit nothing was picked up. It wasn't till she was nearly 3 and a different doc picked it up that i said well, we've had this for nearly a year and a half, can we do something about it please? and chest xrays, ecg's and echocardiograms later, we got our diagnosis.

Ok feel a bit better about it now, can't say that he has ever looked blue, just that blue/red mottly look that you get from being a bit cold. Will keep an eye on it and mention it to gp at next visit just to be sure.

It doesn't sound too worrying from what you're saying. I have a brother who was a blue baby, he was blue all over but the other lady on here (nuttymama or nutty_mama) her daughter just had blue hands... anyway I digress.... my brother's heart murmur was picked up at his 6 week check.

I'd go to the GP too and get in checked out just to be on the safe side - hope it's nothing serious
