I think the problem with it being at a long weekend was that lots of people had other plans, like weddings, family things.

Travel to the city might not be expensive but then there is hireage of a car and anything baby related that you can't take on the plane or freaking expensive taxis, plus accomodation and spending money for food etc. Works out expensive once you add everything up.

We won't be there, no offence aucklanders but I can't stand the place lol

Yes there will be an unoffical meet up NEXT YEAR for Marlborough Wine and Food festival for whoever wants to come. You will need to book accom. early, but if we can get numbers by say october, I may be able to help out with getting a deal?

We could do a south Island meet up later this year I guess? I'm always keen for a roadie to chch.

So long as the dates don't clash with exams me and the boys will be there. I'm thinking of driving up there. If anyone else is thinking of doing the same from down this way we can always make sure we're all ok.

I have family in both Chch and Akl and like both places, I do think that maybe they should alternate between the Nth Is and the Sth Is each year. Which would make this year the Sth Is turn IMHO.

Annie where is a good place to stay for the food festival? I can bring my MILs bus so can sleep in that if there is a camping ground type place to park up.

Seperate to the food festival we could always organise a get together somewhere like hanmer springs or something later in the year.

I think that no matter where it is hosted then it will always be expensive for those who have to travel a long way to come.

I know Auckland is a big scary and expensive place, but if there were a group of you coming up then a lot of hotels / motels etc will do a discounted rate.

Im not so much thinking of the expense, its more the flying or ferrying that Im struggling with. I tried to go to the wellington one but just couldnt do it so no matter where one is in the south island i will be there but north island hmmm.....
