for your child? Was it a joint decision? More your choice? He just had veto rights?

Or did he come up with a list and you came up and just sort of decided? Just wondering.

From our side. We both liked McKayla. I loved loved Isabella (Grant wasnt too fond and said it will shorten to Bella, which I love) and I loved the name Silvana (which he said might be a bit too weird.) so they were out as second names.

He then through the pregnancy said Shirley (after my grandma.)

So what is your stories? Yip back for a while until studies starts but I will make sure I log in and actually respond at least twice a week.

Andrew was a name we picked out of a book after he was born. I wanted an "A" name and that was the only one that we called him that suited him. I got the second name rights and named him Andrew John the John after my dad.

Joshua was a name I wanted for our first but wasn't allowed it. So once he was here and DH went through the names he liked and none of them suited him I suggested Joshua again and it did suit him. At first we didn't have a middle name as DH didn't want to use his first name, so I suggested one of his middle names and he chose Gareth.

I pretty much chose Ethans name, I have always loved the name..but his dad liked it to so I was lucky, we talked about other names but I always knew I would win.

After him watching me give birth one of the first things he said was "you can call him what ever you want"

Both DP and I together made a list of names we liked then we both went off for a week and picked our top 5 for each sex from the list. The names we both agreed on went to our 'short-list' and we then decided which name we wanted from that (there were only 2 for each sex that we did agree on). If one of us didn't like a name, we scrapped it straight away.

For the middle name/names we had agreed from the start to name the baby after our parents so that was an easy choice.

My DH chose Alan's before he was born, but kept it a secrect from me it was really nice. except he nearlly forgot to tell me what it was when he handed him to me. We both chose Michael I wanted Harrison, but DH not like it . IF this is a girl we both decided on the name if is a boy then I am naming him Henry John after my Dad. Shhhh don't tell my Dad he not like the name.

Ella's name was pretty much a joint decision- it was one of the few names we could both agree on and it was my favourite name. Also everyone always asks us to spell our surname, so we liked the idea of having a nice easy to spell first name.

Middle name Ligaya means happiness in Filipino, which I though sounded really nice and we liked the idea of her having a Filipino second name (DH is Filipino). She also has a second middle name which is my maiden name.

I chose Kyan's name, and DH agreed - although I think unless he really hated it he would have gone along with whatever. DH wanted Kyan's middle name to be David, which is his own middle name, his Dad's and his son to a previous relationship as well.

Oops, forgot to add - DH always said I would be the one to choose our son's name. Everything he liked, I didn't like. He was either going to be Kyan or Astin (both were my suggestion) - I think DH preferred Astin but he told me at the end of the day it was my decision what we named him. I think I always knew it would be Kyan but I wanted to have a back-up, just in case it didn't suit him. Luckily for me, it did!

DH had veto rights really- he wasn't that interested in discussing names so he basically said no to the ones he hated (which was almost every name I mentioned!) and I had a few to pick from in the end. Charlotte kind of picked her name- she was going to be Sarah but she didn't look like one and we both looked at each other and knew she was Charlotte. So in the end I came up with the options list of about 3 and we both decided once she was born.

With Kate- we gave Charlotte 3 names to pick from and she picked the one she wanted.

We both compared lists and figured out what 2 names would work from the very limited options there! We always get stuck on boys' names, so if ever we find a boy's name easy then I'll just know we're having a boy ROFL

I chose Megan's name was the only girls name I could think of that I really liked. I couldn't even think of boy's name. My husband did think of a boys name.

My husband's only criteria with a name was that it didn't have any bad connections with it...eg wasn't a name of a person he couldn't stand at school. in saying that one of the names he thought of for a boy was the name of my ex bf ..and while i don't mind the name I simply could not name (if I do ever have a boy) a son of mine that.

We had a spread sheet and scored the names out of 3, then chose from the top 3 when it was time, Fay looked like a pixie when she was born, she was really skinny, with long arms and legs and really 'old' eyes, fo Fay, meaning Fairy or other worldly just fitted her, the other options were Aimee or Phoebe
Neil is a list geek, so the list and spread sheet thing are part of my daily life now, we have them for everything

Mike picked Sebastian Dae'mon - he went through the entire pregnancy suggesting riddiculous things like "Dell" "Jonny Depp" or "Ferrari" (taking inspiration from his posters ) But finally after he was born came up with something decent (both names from fantasy novels we both like) And since I liked it, Sebastian it was

In saying that - Any future bubs will probably be my decision with him having veto rights

EDIT: OMG Claire hehe Love that smiley

Dh came up with all our children's names. He never liked any of my choices. Although when he first suggested the name Rico, we had only been going out for a short time but I liked it straight away & never really considered any other names for our first-born son. I always like Ethan, but Dh didn't.

Gia took a while for me to warm too. I liked Cassidy or Italiah, DH didn't. For some reason I must've thought a lot about it and it grew on me. She has my middle name, Nadia.

And with our 3rd child, we decided almost straight away for a girl's name - Ava. He suggested Eva, I said no, I like Ava better & for once DH agreed! For a boy I was thinking maybe Boston, Dh didn't like. He came up with Jett, which I'd heard before & liked it, but had to work out if I wanted my child to be called it. But it didn't take long for that too, to grow on me.

We started writing down names that we heard and liked about 5 years ago. When we found out we were having a girl we went through the short list and decided on a first name that went nicely with Rosalie as a second.

Rosalie is my Mum's name but she died when i was 16 so I wanted my daughters name to honour her life and for Sam to have that connection with her Grandma.

So DH suggested Samantha and we both agreed that it was a nice girly name, but would suit a tomboy which she is already proving to be

We both agreed on the name for our DD. I actually thought of it (Hayley) and was trying it as a middle name for another name i liked (which hubby didn't) . We did orignally choose a name that hubby wanted (and I actually liked - Payton). I came up with putting Hayley Rose together and my hubby liked cause it had flow and he liked the name Hayley and rose was his mums name
What we did was write down all the name combinations and once she was born choose the one that suited her.
As soon as my hubby saw her and the doc asked what was her name, he automatically said Hayley Rose.

thinking of names prior came down to compromise. Luckily it was a girl cause we had trouble with boys names

Lesieli was named before she was born. The first granddaughter was always going to carrty her grandmothers name. Her dad chose her middles names.

Mercedes was called Autumn all thru my whole pregnancy. Her father wanted Christina or Erika but I didnt like them. A week before Mercedes was born her dad said he wanted to call her Mercedes. I said no it was Autumn and had been since I was 12weeks preg. WHen she was born I cried my eyes out (baby blues of course) she didnt suit Autumn so I went with Mercedes. That just suited so much better. Middle name is her nana's name.

Alize was named by his father before he was even thought of. One night 6 years ago he comes home from work(worked in a bottle store)  with a bottle of Alize saying he loves the name and wants to call out next baby this boy or girl. SO when I was preg with Alize he reminds me of our conversation lol. I still have the bottle too.

We have been discussing baby names for years (even before we actually considered ourselves ready to TTC) but Michaela was one DH came up with when we were pregnant. Just out of the blue one day he suggested Michaela and I loved it.

We couldn't agree on a boys name at all (had about 6 favourites) so we were so happy at 20 weeks to find out we were having a girl. She's been Michaela ever since.

Michaela's middle name is Elizabeth named after our niece who is named after my sister who was named after my mums favourite doll.

I suggested it, we both liked it and neither of us has taught a lily - that is the huge bonus! We had a back up in case she didn't look like a lily, but she did.

Lol, during pregnancy Dh would make crazy suggestions for names too, like The Rock and Ken Rutherford and similar.

We both decided, think we knew by about the 5th week of pregnancy... we had a boys and a girls name all ready. Of course we discussed many other options throughout the pregnancy, but kept coming back to Luke - the only one we could agree on! His middle name is after both our grandfathers - they had the same name so that made it easy...

Im a really organised person so wanted to decide on a name way back in the begining. DH really wasnt interested in thinking about it that early so when ever the topic came up all he could suggest were super hero names. I eventually just made a list of names I liked and he picked the only one he liked and thats been the name since. The first one seemed so much easier as we both just thought of it one night a few months before I gave birth.

We went through the whole pregnancy calling him Boris, it just seemed to suit him whilst he was inside me!! Everyone was really worried that we were actually going to call him Boris!!!!

We had 3 names chosen, and when he was born he just seem to look like an Oliver. It took us forever to agree on the final 3 though! We have some girls names but we are still in debate about those. I really like unusual names and DH likes very safe names.....so not sure where we will end up with the next one!

It was pretty much my choice and as long as we had a boy (we didn't know beforehand) we were alright as DH didn't like me choice of girls names. Although DH had opinions on what he didn't like, he didn't have any names he did like!
I also won out on having 2 middle names! We/I named our little boy after both sides of the family
Jack Antony(DH) Ferdinand (my Dad's middle name)
Not sure how we will go when we have more, especially a girl as that is the name we have problems with

It was pretty much all me, apart from Mercedes. I named Maya a couple of days after I found out she was a girl, and she was going to be Maya come hell or high water. With the gremlins I found out they were girls while I was over in Oz so I rang Willie to tell him and he said, good, I have a name for one of them. He'd met a girl at his niece's 21st that weekend called Mercedes, and seeing as he drives a Mercedes truck decided that if the gremlins were girls, one of them would be Mercedes. Initially I said "yeah right" but it grew on me, and once I found out the meaning ("in honour of the virgin Mary") I was sold. I picked Sienna after much debate ( those who have been around long enough will remember the nutty friend I lost over that who thought she 'owned' the name Sienna *rolls eyes*), I thought of lots of other names but kept coming back to Sienna. Willie picked their Maori middle names, I picked all their European ones except Kailah (Mercedes) which my mum picked.
This bubs will probably be Chiara Louise Whitinga o Te Ra girl or Luca Shakur Wiremu John for a boy.

I dont know how it came about but DH was to decide on what her name was.. i think i lost a bet or something
i had mentioned the name janaya really early on and he said it was a dumb name. but when she was born thats what he named her! He still denies me ever mentioning the name! I gave her the middle name rose, DH wasnt too keen but i convinced him she looked like a janaya rose and signed the certificate.

this time around i was hoping DH would let me name him. I wouldnt like to name him anything that DH disagrees with though..

Meh, im sorry if it sounds immature, but I chose Caitlyn's name and I ALLOWED her father to chose a middle name -as long as i liked it (which i did) -i figured when he gives birth he can name that child, same with DP and children we have, ive told him my next daughter will be called Amelia Rachel Jade , and he knows thats all there is to it, boys names we are hopeless on so i may ask for his input.
I have told him he can name any goldfish we get.
