Hi there
My wee man is teething and running a slight temp so Im wondering about giving him pamol. I have some on prescription from the doctor who said 1.25mls but that was when he was 6 weeks old. He is now 5 months old (today
and is quite a big boy (8kgs+) so will the 1.25 still be ok or should I give him a little more?

Thanks heaps for your help in advance!

Not too sure about dosages Simone, but just wanted to send a hug through for you and Thomas - not looking forward to the teething time...

You could try calling your Dr and asking the nurse about the dosage I'd say he needs more than 1.25ml but it all depends on the strength of the pamol.
Or the chemist should be able to let you know the correct dose.
My bottle says "5ml contains paracetamol 120mg" so the dosage for that strength is 3-12mths 4-8kg 2.5 to 5ml.

If it is the strength of 120mg in 5mls of pamol I would give him 5mls or pamol  and if it is 250mg in 5mls of pamol I would give him 2.5mls

Thanks Bel! He is finally asleep, thank goodness. He wasn't crying or anything but has big bright red cheeks, lots of drool and just seems sad instead of his usual happy giggly self.

The pamol we have is 120mg/5ml so looks like 2.5-5ml is the way to go so thanks Shaz

Thanks heaps ladies, hopefully a good sleep and some pamol will do the trick!

I have got a page from docs with all the doses at all the weights. I was trying to work out how to scan it and put it on here but I cant. I can email it to you if you want to PM me.

sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t sh*t!!!! I have been giving Tom too much. God I am so confused.... It is so hard when the calculation gives you mg not ml. My pamol is 250mg/5ml and the chart I have is for 120mg/5ml so I think I have been giving him double the dose. Thankfully he hardly gets it and I have been underdosing the overdose as I am too lazy to fill the syringe twice.

It says for 8kg give 120mg or 5.0ml.

I was told 0.5ml per kg, so by that I would give him 4ml.

cuppatea it all depends on whether you have the 120mg/5ml strength or 250mg/5ml which is what I have.

for little kids is best to get the 120mg/5ml dose. If you're unsure, ring and ask you doc or practice nurse, better to get the doseage right.

Oh, I have the 120mg, I didn't even know that there were different strength ones, I've only given it to him twice

mostly the bigger kids stuff (250mg/ml) is orange, and thicker and tastes really foul and sugary. Paris has only just changed over to this stuff, so we have both strengths in our house, clearly named and dosages on them.

the orange stuff is revolting, they gave it to me when i had my wisdom teeth out, the pink one seems to be not quite as bad! I called the doc and confirmed that 5mls is the correct doseage for 8 kilos and he is happily asleep in bed so it worked a trick, am hoping he doesnt wake in night with sore gums

Has anyone tried using the baby nurofen?
