If given the choice, are you living (geographically speaking) where you want to be? If circumstance were different would you be somewhere else- or are you planning on moving elsewhere in the future?

I went to uni in Hamilton but never intended on living there for good. DH and I moved to Akl but decided pretty quickly it wasn't the place we wanted to settle. We then moved to Wellington, loved it there but always knew we were going to come over here so never really settled there. Now we're here- we know that in the next few years we'll be coming back (either to NZ or OZ) so I'm still not settled. I HATE this feeling of unsettledness- I can't wait to move somewhere and just stay put.

I know its unlikely anyone is in the exact same position- but I was just wondering if anyone has plans to move anywhere else in the future. Or if given the choice, would you live elsewhere

If it were absolutely up to me I'd go back to Nelson. I love it there- unfortunately DHs career options are non existent there We're pretty certain we'll be going to Melbourne- unless we win the euro millions

I would definitely be elsewhere, but am happy here too - it's just the $$$ that are the issue!

I love my house but we live in Raumati South, which is ok but I would like to be closer to my family who are closer to Wellington city.

DH's job is up there tho and Charlotte is really settled at daycare but some days, when I get up at 5am to come into work, I really wished we lived closer to town.

I know its not going to change so I am trying to settle as much as I can but sometimes, you cant help that niggly feeling that you wish it was different.

DF is studying, so we have to be close to Weltec at the moment... and afterwards he'll be working in IT, so not really that compatible with my ideal places to live (away from large cities) unless of course he can end up working from home. We are considering moving down to dunedin in a year or two, not sure yet.

I think if we were going to move anywhere we would move closer to my parents but as it's expensive to live up there I don't see it happening anytime soon or ever maybe if we won lotto or something but I think it would take a lot of persuading to get Jesse to think it would be a good idea so I think I'm stuck here.

I love being so close to my parents but wouldn't mind living more in the country.

But then I think theres a whole world out there that I have never seen how do I know theres not a better place to live?

Well at the moment I'm sitting on the couch watching ER from last night, and I'd much rather be in bed asleep!

Seriously though, we are over Auckland, both of us want to move but we don't know where. We should have moved before Conor started Intermediate and Nyah started school.

I'd love to move back down to Christchurch, but it would mean we would be miles away from our parents.

In the perfect world with lots of money we'd move to the Gold Coast.

I don't know if you can win!

I mean, I love living in Welly but I would like a bit more room... but then I wouldn't like to have to travel 1.5 hours to work each day. ARGH.

I'd also loooooooove to live in France (in theory)

I want to move to the country and raise Michaela (and lots of little siblings for her) on our families land.

My parents have 4 acres in Featherston and have offered us land to build on. We'd live right next door to my mum & dad, sister and her two kids who Michaela adores but it's an hour drive from town and the train service (although improved) is not frequent enough so the commute would cut into my time with her.

If DH and I could get work out there we would move in a flash. I already have house plans.

Oh gosh, I would LOVE to live in Featherston. That's sorta what I was talking about when I said I'd love to live further out.

It's beauuuutiful.

And up-and-coming

I love it out there too, we spend heaps of time over there. It's nice that Michaela has so much space and they have chickens which both freak her out and fascinate her at the same time. Plus I'd get a horse if I lived out there, and maybe a dog too.

It's funny though I was born in Auckland, raised in Dunedin and have lived in Wellington for 12 years so I've never been a small town girl but would love to be.

I'm very very contented living in Mt Maunganui. Everything's within a 10 mins drive. The beach, the shops, cafes, parks, & only 2.5 hrs to the International airport.

In saying that, if we didn't have kids we probably would be living somewhere else. I think DH would love to live in France. But not permanently. I think I would've liked to have had a time living in Oz too, maybe Gold Coast.

But we're not planning on moving anywhere. My IL's are in Q.town & MIL would move us there in a second to be with her, but there is NO WAY I'm moving to live by the MIL, when my family are all 2 kms from my house!

nope not settled at all - strange I have a job I love ideal hours etc... (although could do without the half hour drive there and back) We own our house that I love (apart from some cosmetic things I want to get rid of - update) The kids are all settled at school, caregivers etc... and our parent (especially mine whom we are more close to) are not too far way...we have a huge circle of friends here and a busy social life... so why do i feel unsettled and is the grass greener so to speak some where else?

I would love to move to the Gold Coast and we are thiniking about doing that after JOsh finishes NZQA (2 years) well actually inbetween GC and Brisbane is where we would look. BUt I dont know if I have the guts to leave all the 'security' behind but then don't want to regret it if we didn't give it a go....

ummmm... this is something that has been playing on my mind for so long so nope not settled - I guess I never saw myself as settling in this little town (its not a city) and so that gets me unsettled too

Kinda. I would love to be closer to my parents in Oz but we can't do that now with DH's job, or with the fact that I want to finish my degrees at Massey.

Its funny - we absolutley LOVED living in London, but decided we didnt want to raise our children there. I still think NZ is one of the best places in the world for that.

I lived in Cyprus as a kid, and would love to go back and live on a greek island for a while. Its something we talk semi-seriously about doing with the kids once they are older (even if its only for 3months)...as we think it would be an awesome life experience.

In NZ, I think we would both love to live "at the beach" somewhere, but the $$$ and travel for DH to work is the thing stopping us (saying that if we changed our lifestyle we could move further out and have a bit of space...). Quite like Wellington, but as all my family are in Auckland I cant see us moving far from here!

Yes sort of - we are in a smallish town but I would love to be further out in the country or even milking cows mainly for the lifestyle. It was how both me and my DF were raised.

I must admit, I'm with Miss. I spent some time living in Oz growing up and yet I always end up back here, it's just home. Would love my family to move back here but that'll never happen, they are well settled in Oz. I love to travel, took Maya to London and Vienna when she was a toddler and have done Europe, Asia and the States when I was younger, but I love coming home too.

I would love to move out of the city and live out in the country, but DH isn't that keen on it as he doesn't like driving too far to go to work. Even if we did move, it would around the Auckland region, mainly because all my family is here and now that we have Ella I am finally realising the importance of family and having the support around.

In saying that....if we ever got the big lotto win, my ideal country to live would be Switzerland (lived there for a year as an exchange student and feel in love with the country) and I would move all my family over with us

I enjoy living in Hamilton. Its a city so has lots of amenities close to hand, and is only an hour (ish) away from anywhere. If we were able to I would love to buy a bigger section on the outskirts. While we considered moving to Chch when we returned from our OE, now that we have kids I'm glad we stayed as both of our families are close by.

We are pretty happy here, but I dont see us staying long term. Its nice for now having little kids with both our families here. But there isnt much in the way of job opportunities for either of us and I know my hubby is getting bored with work, as I probably would be too if I was working. Just not sure where we would actually go...

We live in the country well small rural town and have done for the last 5 years, first Bulls and now Feilding and they are great for raising younger children, kids walk and bike to school here.
Having own home helps to make me more settled.

I grew up in Akl moved to London then Edinburgh and then came home and moved to Wellington.
I don't want to move back to Auckland been there done that and its just too busy.
I love Wellington, and DFs parents are in Stokes Valley and we've friends in Titahi Bay and both areas are great heaps to do.

I am now studying and have a great job and am feeling more settled by the day, its taken a while but finally starting to feel part of the Manawatu. Our children will be born here and will get to do country stuff which I never did.

We are in Hamilton, but moving to Pirongia this year, which is where DH's family are. I am really looking forward to it, my SIL and in laws are out there, its a small country village and I have a few friends out there too. The local school is a 5 minute walk away, and the local pub for DH is about the same!
I don't think we would move to Oz permanently, even though my family are there, it feels right being here in NZ

We are in central akl and although we have sea views and are surrounded by trees I'd love to be somewhere closer to a beach where you can actually swim! I'd love to be in Torbay or Whangaparoa Peninsula. I would love a good view and lots of nature around but also need to be close to a decent city centre as I'm a shopper ;)

I love where we live and can't imagine living in another town at all. We are in North-West Auckland but live on 25 acres so we have a lot of privacy. And we are lucky enough to have a beach bach only 40 minutes away in North-East Auckland, lol, people probably think we are crazy but it works for us!

If we could get jobs that pay us the same as we are on now I would move in a heartbeat! A smaller town would be great!

We are also in love with Queensland...but with all the family over here we are reluctant to move away that far. Catch 22 reall.

Aussiegirl, I know a few people from my old work who lived in Pirongia and they rave about it, apparently the community out there is awesome!

We love living in Hamilton, just not in the location we are in at the moment - major main road right outside our door and the house shakes every time a truck goes past. So we'd like to move at some point. But both our families are here, we both grew up here and love this city, it has everything for us. We have lived many other places but this is home.
