I only watch Idol for the first couple of shows (to laugh, to cry, and to see who gets in to the top 10). After the early ones, it's all over for me.
I think alot of people are tone deaf, and don't know it. They really do expect to make it all the way.

Yep I'm watchign it! I do like the singing/dancing reality t.v. shows. Like it better than the Survivor/Dating ones.
There's soooo many nutters on the American Idol!!! It is funny. I'm sure they mainly put the crap ones on for t.v. ratings. They leave showing the good singers for the top 24.

Oh Baby On Board, I am the same, I thought it was really mean that they laughed so much at him, when I saw him I thought he was going to be really good. And he looked so sincere !! But I did also have a wee giggle cos he was terrible. I don't know if people actually think they can sing or are just wanting their 10 secs of fame !
Did ya check out the Paula stalker dude ??? He was freaky !

oh it is funny aint it?
some of them really need to be told they cant sing , cos whether they dont like being told or not , they cant!
kelly Clarkson was (and still is) my fave idol, ive been watching her auditions, and clips of her singing thru the show and her live performances, she can really sing

I missed it but can not see how some of the really bad singing people could think they are good enough - surely they must go on there just for their 2 min of fame! I mean some are soooo bad - someone somewhere along the line would have mentioned it to them surely even if they are totally oblivious

I loved it, I was in such a foul mood, then it cheered me all up! I even had a cry at that Temptress girl who was so sad and they handled her so beautifully. Plus I cried when they talked to the family of the girl whose daughter has rett syndrome.

I could tell he was a bit slow (how do I say it without sounding mean).
I'm just really sensitive about those things. . I've attacked random people in the street for making fun of someone with a stutter. . .

Oh yesterday I nearly cried for the Moses guy too... when he was singing I thought surely it must be a piss take, but the look on his face when they were laughing at him... he just looked heartbroken I just wanted to go and give him a big hug.
And Temptress, they were so sweet to her!! Like they were with that lawn mowing guy today (the thumbs up one). Why is it that they can be so lovely to some people and so awful to others???

I have to ask if your kid liked singing but wasn't any good at it, as a parent would you encourage them cause they liked it or discourage and suggest the focus their talents on something else.
Cause some of these kids are awful and seems like no one has ever told them until now.

We're brothers forever !!! haaa haaaa bloody song is stuck in my head !!!
Re: if I'd tell my child they weren't a great singer. Tough question, I'd want them to follow their dream but wouldn't want them to be humiliated. So do you let them do it and let them get rejected and then intervene, or do you save them from the initial rejection ???

"I am your brother! We're best friends for ever..."!!!!!! God that was so hilarious, I think I'm gonna be singing that song to myself for a loooong time to come!!
I would tell them straight, rather than letting them think they could sing when they clearly cannot. It would save them the humiliation later on. I feel so sorry for some of these people - they just look absolutely heartbroken when they are told the truth.

If my child asked me I would be honest and tell them . .
My friend and I were going to go on New Zealand Idol for the fun of it because we know we can't sing but we didn't. . My cousin made it through tho

I would tell them that while they were able to sing and have a lovely voice, the idol competitions are for the top of the top singers, and most people can't sing that well.

I would def steer my child in another direction if I didn't think they could sing very well. Oh so definately. Someone needs to be honest with these people!!!

I wouldn't do it because even if I liked singing enough to go far with it, I think I wouldn't want to go that route.
As for kids, I think I'd be like, "well if you really want to then we need to get you as ready as possible" and enrol them in singing school or something. And if they were terrible I'd hope that they got sick of the homework in a hurry or vastly improved with tuition!!

the girl that started crying as she was doing the audition for her mother was so sweet, not that she could sing-but the thought was nice.
