| Hope you girls are all having a nice weekend. I'm having a horrible one - after no sleep last night from back pain and kicks in the ribs, I got a phone call at 7am from my mother saying to me to pick up clothes from her house and go to the hospital. Turns out the stupid b*tch got drunk and took all her pills on purpose. I tell you i am SO ANGRY. I spent til lunchtime there when they released her, now she's staying at my house with her partner and dog (those 2 are fine) and i'm expected to jump in and be the adult AGAIN. As soon as I saw her this morning I wanted to smack her in the face. She'll sit there for the next few days feeling all sorry for herself and asking herself why she did it, and that's gonna annoy me even more. Its a bloody good thing I have a boyfriend who can shut all this crap out and ignore stuff, poor him having to take on my stupid family. GRRR. |

Yeeouch! That sounds completely awful. I hope you never have to go through it again. So um, does she need some professional help? 'cause that seems like a rather quick hospital stay after pulling a stunt like that, and sure does seem a lot for you to carry. ------------- Andie |

| Yea this happens every now and then - last time was 2 years ago. Its always blimmin ME that has to deal with the fallout as well. She spoke to the psych team at the hospital who had no worries about her going home, so I trust that they know what they're talking about. I just dont need this stress. |

At the risk of giving you one more thing to do when you're plate is so full already... *ducking for cover here!!*... I wonder if it'd be worth ringing someone on the psych team and asking for her to be allocated a mental health worker, or ask them to suggest where she could go to get one. If she shows any signs of heading downhill again ring the 24-hour MH emergency team from your local hospital and that might get her one allocated. A MH Keyworker can be a real asset, and I really think it's asking too much of a daughter to be fully responsible for her care at a time like this - I mean, I'm sure you know exactly what to do and what to look out for, but it's still a really tall ask when you've also got your own anger and sadness about it to deal with. Anyway, I realised I'm doing that guy thing - someone rants and then here comes a 'solution' straight back at them... SORRY!! | Nah it's all good - i appreciate it. If I didnt want input then I wouldnt have posted :) Im taking her to see her GP on monday so they can review the meds she's on - obviously they're not working cuz she shouldnt be feeling like this. |

Have you tried ringing the chch helpline? they are really good if you feel someone is a danger to themselves but Ive heard the psych team at chch is good too.
I kind of know how you feel, having similar problems with my mum at the moment! parents are suppose to have thier sh*t together but I always seem to be counselling or playing parent to one of the |

I'm pretty much at the point where I'm thinking sod her, she can go home and deal with this sh*it by herself. I'm having enough issues being pregnant and I dont need her crap. I'll see how she goes tonight and if she's alright tomorrow i'll be sending her home. |

Man that is hard, I know what you mean about the role reversal thing, that must be hard when you're pregnant and probably wanting a bit of mothering/advice and sympathy from her. Not nice to deal with your mum being sick either, I imagine underneath all the frustration you're probably worried about her too.

It might sound harsh but it's not her call whether or not she gets a MH worker - typically when someone needs one the most they're not in the right frame of mind to decide whether or not it's a good idea, and since she's been discharged into your care for now, I'd say you should be allowed a fair whack of the decision-making at a time like this. But ODing like that on purpose sure screams 'help' to me, and it might be helpful for you to have someone else who is a bit removed from the situation looking out for her and assessing some of her needs. I was thinking the same thing miss about her partner. Is the suicide atttempt for real or is she just wanting atteniton? Doesnt sound like the MH system is working very well down there if they didnt admit her and put her under the care of a MH team of out reach care before going home. She would need a full psych assessment with meds review etc... | She just wants attention. Its all rather juvenile really. Her partner is dealing with it, but they live in a little caravan, and he works all the time just to make ends meet, so the best place is for her to be here. We had a good talk last night, and she's sorry (which she blimming well should be) and says it wont happen again. She's also agreed to get a MHW, which is awesome. Oh and the partner thing - I have power of attorney - he doesnt. They're not married and havent been together that long. I'd trust him to make decisions, but legally he cant. |

Is your mum really sick mental health wise? Just asking as you have power of attorney and usually that is granted for people who cant make decisions for themselves (for what ever reason) hence a family member applying for this. Is she unable to make legal decisions for herself?Posted By: MissAngel

When her and her partner got together, they handed over power of attorney to me in case anything happened to them, and decisions couldnt be made for my nanna who is ill in a rest home (prolly should have clarified that ) |
