I'm going to put a few ads up to look after kids before and after school. How much do you think I should charge? Porse said most people charge around $6 an hour for preschool kids so should I charge around the same?
Thanks

if it was me, i'd charge just under what other places do...might be enough to make people choose you over other places

Check out Student Job Search and see what people are hiring their carers for?
I wouldn't price under. There is enough demand for it that you can afford to. ESPECIALLY as you are a Mum.
I would get a first aid cert as that is the first thing people ask.
Do you drive? That is also helpful and therefore worth paying for.

hi ya,
I think $6 is really reasonable, you can pay up to $7 for care so you would be right in the middle.
Good Luck!

Around my little town for babysitters it is generally $5 p/h.
I agree with the being a mum but and also getting your first aid cert - people will feel much better with a mum than a teenager!!

Good on you! I think $6/7 is ok, I would def prefer a mum to a teenager!

That is a great idea. Harry is starting school this year and I am in the process of sorting my hours out so I can finish most days by 2.30pm to get Harry so he doesn't have after school care. I don't know if this will work so I then started to think about a 'nanny' or something similar where they would collect Harry from School, get Alex from creche and then look after them till say 4.30pm.
I think it depends on the person and whats needed, how many days etc but $5 sounds to cheap (but I'm in the city). Maybe $8 per hour and include afternoon tea? Plus what school they go to, where you are etc etc.

Thanks every one, I actually already have a first aid cert and a full drivers licence and used to be a tutor so can help out with homework. I guess I'll advertise $6 and go from there. I live within walking distance to 2 schools but could drive.
Plans are on hold for a few weeks tho cos this idiot I know (Ben) lost his licence and had a falling out with the guy who was taking him to work so know I have to to
