I'm starting to think about getting my hospital bag ready and wonder whether it's best to take nighties or pj's with buttons down the front.
Which one did you find better/easier? Thanks |

I went with PJs but that's 'cause I've never owned a nightie.

I also went PJs as I don't own a nightie. Also practical for my 2nd day as I didn't want to get fully dressed, but didn't want to stay in hospital gown, or PJs so wore the pants and a BF top -------------

I would have said PJs as well however I was destined to have a c-section so went for the nightie option. Which was definitely more comfy in that scenario
Also the buttons down the front on the nightie made no convenience for me as I was double expressing/feeding so had to whip off the nightie anyway. |

i dont wear either but took both ended up with c section so gown was the best but when i was up and about pjs were better for me..but i got dressed when i could ( helped me feel better but made feeding harder:) ) ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

Im going to take pj's as Im not really a nighty person and I can just unbutton the top for breast feeding Plus it will be winter and cold! pj's and socks sounds good! ------------- |

I just wore the hospital nighties too. While you couldn't say they're particularly stunning they were comfy esp after having a c-sect. And no washing either  -------------

I brought a nightshirt with buttons when I had DD. I wore it in hospital and for bf at home.
I did also take PJ's. I personally did feel more comfortable in a bra, nightshirt, knickers & pad than I did in bra, PJ's, knickers & pad. But as everyone has said - its a personal thng at the end of the day! ------------- Gill http://lilypie.com">

I took my own PJ's, but after seeing the bloody mess I was creating I stuck with the hospital nightie and was glad I did cause they didn't end up in my bag to take home

I took PJs but ended up wearing my 3/4 yoga pants and a b/f singlet. My pants were like lightweight trackies and they were black so I felt comfy in them (IYKWIM) with all the visitors coming and going.

I took both and ended up wearing nighties coz my deflated tum was a different shape to what I expected and the PJ's didn't sit right.
Sheza - even in winter don't take too many warm clothes for you coz they keep the maternity wards ridiculously warm for the babies. -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

I took PJs and normal clothes for day time (trackies etc). I was in for 8 days so DH would take stuff home and wash it for me....mainly coz I got so hot and sweatiy and milky.

So true I was sweating like a pig the whole time in was in there with Caprece. I went with pjs but preferred yoga pants and a singlet |

Ditto on the pj pants and breastfeeding singlet. I wore the gown for the first day (bleeding and stuff) and then got dressed in comfy pants and singlet during the day. It made me feel way better than sitting round in my pjs all day, as if I was on the road to recovery more or something (it's all in the head!!).

I specially bought dark red flannelette pjs. I ended up just wearing the pants and a breast feeding singlet.

What size PJs/trackies did you buy? I'm normally a 12 - would large be big enough for post-baby belly? And while I'm asking, what about breastfeeding singlets - I like the idea but don't want anything too huge or too tiny (though would rather have huge than tiny I guess!)

I guess it depends on how much weight you put on during your pregnancy and how much you lose during the birth.
I put on 10kgs in the 9 months and lost 7kgs in the few hours it took to give birth. That meant the next day I was back into my pre-pregnancy trackpants but I still had a big loose sack wear my baby had been so I was comfortable wearing a size up from my pre-pregnancy size (my pjs were mediums but I'd normally wear small). Loose is better than tight and if you get something a couple of sizes bigger than you used to buy with drawstrings you should be pretty safe. ------------- http://lilypie.com"> http://lilypie.com">

I went with hospital stuff too. With my first baby I felt awkward with others seeing me in hospital clothes so I just wore clothes 24/7! That's because I had a c/s and couldn't stand much so only changed once a day. I felt better with it in the end though cause when the doctors do their rounds in the morning it didn't matter whether I had just woken or not, I was at least decent.
With #3 she was VB (and therefore a bit messier), I went with hospital gowns so I wouldn't have to take any washing home. I wore a maternity bra underneath so I felt somewhat dressed. A t-shirt will probably add the most warmth you'll need - like Emma said, even in winter. You'll only need warm clothes for leaving. ------------- |
