Or are kids clothes getting more expensive
I'll give you an example. I brought Nyah two tops and a pair of very stylee shorts. Granted they were from TNT, but it cost me about $10.
Then tonight I was flicking thru the JK and PP catalogues and thought I'd see what I could buy for $10.. In the JK one I found a belt for $12 and a okish top!! I also found an awesome pair of girls jeans for $30!!! I nearly fell off the couch. I pay $30 for my jeans. I would never pay that much for a pair of jeans for a 5yr old girl!! who buy the time winter comes would have probably grown another couple of inches.
Why are kids clothes so expensive? Ok I did chose the two of the more stylee shops as an example, but it seems that's where most people buy their kids clothes from. How can they justify charging that much.
Admittedly TnT's clothes quality isn't great, but they have some very cool stuff at the moment, and when they have sales you can get some nice pieces very cheap!
One of my fave shops now is Cotton on Kids, especially for Nyah, I can get some lovely things for her from the outlet store costing between $5- $10.
Don't even get me started on Cooper's size clothes! OMG!!!

Sure have. As a result, I don't buy stuff from Patch...I leave that to my mother! LOL! Yay for Nana's. JK seems really over the top price-wise ATM.
I didn't even look in TnT for months when Elle was born as I thought it was cheap and nasty but we are finding it great at the mo. Really cute stuff and it is washing and wearing very well, better in fact than our JK / farmers stuff.
My only gripe is that the sizing is too big for my wee girl and it just feels wrong to put her in size 3-6 months!

I refuse to buy stuff from Farmers now.. the stuff we've got namely onesies have stretched and are just gross.
Postie Plus in Royal Oak have some cute stuff for kids. Again, a tad overpriced.
TnT is my shop choice at the moment.

Well I won't tell you how much we paid for a dress for Maddie in Noumea...the words "French" and "Boutique" should be enough to give a clue though! hehehehe.
But seriously....yeah PP and JK are more expensive but for nice gear I prefer the quality. For day care stuff then we tend towards Farmers (though the Osh Kosh and YmummaY stuff is gorgeous!) and TnT. We also tend to only buy sale stuff and at the outlets as well so that helps.

It works well for me as we are one season behind over here so when all the PP NZ stuff goes on sale at the end of the season I buy up large, get it sent to Mums and she sends it here. So I have all the 'new' season stuff but pay way less for it!
Charlotte is really tall and slim and the only place I have found that consistently has jeans/trousers that fit her is PP. And then of course if she has the trousers we have to get the matching top...
Shes in her nursery uniform 5 mornings a week so she wears way less clothes now. I do spend more now on the ones she has- I love Baby Gap (which is pretty darn expensive too!) just can't resist all the cute baby stuff. With Kate I have no excuses- Baby clothes are my weakness- I used to spend a fortune on clothes for me and now its on clothes for them!

For best quality cheap kids clothes I love k-mart... unfortunately we don't have one here! Warehouse/farmers I find are horrible. They're thin material, they stretch, they don't age well at all (esp farmers!) I've bought a few things from PP/JK on sale... but full price? no way. PP has an outlet store in gisborne, and mum has picked up a few really cheap jeans and stuff from there. (My favourites had a tiny flaw in them... almost a hole but not - really sturdy, great fit and looked great and I think they cost her something like $12)

Hehe can i join in?
We started getting sick of Farmers clothes and the poor quality a wee while back, I found the more mobile Lucas got they didn't seem to last as long (domes on the one-sies are falling off eft, right and centre) and he is jumping sizes ...he's 11 months today (ignore the stupid ticker, not sure why it isn't updating) and he's in size 2's now ..very thickset around his tum tum and hard to find pants with waistbands that aren't too tight.
I agree Mel that TNT is one of our first choices at the moment, although seeing as though Lucas is in 2's the prices have increased dramatically, even when on sale! ...to be honest I haven't really bought anything from PP, leave that up to family as it's out of my budget ...and JK's clothes don't do it for me! (and overpriced)
We have a little asian botique shop in Papakura ...can't recall the name but they have lovely (good quality clothes) for a decent price, they have a shop out in Pukekohe also! And lastly the Warehouse ...sadly MOST of Lucas' clothes he is in atm are from there or Baby Factory sales ...its hard to find decent clothes this time of year when we are sorta in between seasons ...
There ya go, rambled on enough now girls ...but thats my two cents worth

OMG I love the Richocet (sp) range at B/F that's all Cooper could wear for the first 3mths. It's so well made. But it shrinks though...so I just contradicted myself! LMAO. (it's the wine).
I haven't brought alot of stuff from Kmart... I try and pick up the branded stuff for the kids when it's on sale. EG: barbie etc for Nyah and Winnie for Cooper.

I've been buying from the sales but I recently bought from JK sale and while I thought $9 for 2 long sleeved onsies was greatI didnt expect the sozes to be so random. Tom is a wee guy and the 6-9 month was too small so i reordered 9-12 months and I dont think that would fit either

Hi
i have to admit to being a cheap ass now , i buy most of the kids clothes from op shops or savemart. only very occasionally (normally the sales) can i afford to buy them new clothes.
I'd love to be able to afford to buy them all new clothes but it doesnt always work.
did go into tnt today, they have some adorable stuff. i bought willow some tops there in 3 month size a few weeks ago but sadly they too small, silly me with baby brain.so i managed to squeeze her into them twice.
my other daughter is 8 so her clothes have just doubled in price now that shes in the tween sized clothes very frustrating, her clothes as expensive as mine now!
have to agree on warehouse, their quality and selection arent that great. (especially babies)and weird sizing too

i bought 3 items at PP for janaya and it cost me $107!!!!
it was a bit of a splurge and i didnt even look at the price tags.. her dress was almost $50!!
i must admit though, the quality is so much better than the warehouse or farmers. and the adjustable waists are so great, i buy jeans a size too big and just tighten the waistband and readjust as she grows. i find the warehouse sizing is just so off, and the lose shape so quickly.
i bought a whole lot of things on the pp online outlet store for the baby, sooooo much cheaper!

I haven't actully bought much for my kids - thank you Nana, but find myself struggling with the prices - not in terms of what i can afford, but what i can justify! jake has a pair of overalls I'm about to sell on trademe. they were given as a gift and are from a japanese designer. they cost over $300! Problem is - he can't easily undo them himsleves so he wets them. So useless!

Kids clothes are expensive although I do find that JK is the cheaper one out of them and PP.
I get James' clothes from all over the place we live just down the road from Dress Mart so if I time it right I can get some real good bargains from JK or PP.
I have no problems with clothes from T&T I actually quite like them as well as some Kmart clothes and I use hand me downs for daycare or The Warehouse and the only thing I get from Farmers is PJ's and bodysuits when there on sale the ;last couple of seasons their clothes I have thought to be not that nice looking.
I also find trademe great for bying nice new things for example I have gotten James a Gap Hoodie, levis hoodie and some Converse Boots and they were all either $20 or under brand new and those are his good clothes which I don't mind spending a little bit more on.
Also now that he's stopped growing so fast and I can get good use out of them don't mind the prices to much.
Sorry if your still reading that turned into a novel

I do tend to buy the 3pack onesies from PP, at Dressmart because they fit Cooper so well.

Ok, haven't read half the posts here yet (will go back and do it i promise)
I must say that we buy a majority of the girls clothes from Tnt.
Occasionally we get from pumpkin patch for a very very big special occasion, or Paris likes to save her little bits of pocket money and go and get little headbands etc from there sometimes. She is still very very choosy about what she wears, it has to look good.
JK, we had a whole heap of stuff handed down to us that another family had used for their little girl for daycare stuff!, admittedly, lol we used it for the girls good stuff cos it was still in great condition (although i have found daycare teachers tend to ensure kids actually wear an apron etc when painting when in expensive clothes but despite being brand new, the pairs of warehouse winter trackies will come home the first day covered in bright red paint which ends in them looking REALLY budget after that! ARGH!)
We buy at sales or the otaki outlet for the PP or JK stuff and get a few neat things. We get alot of Paris's tops etc from Farmers because they fit her nicely and have the girly hearts etc on them that she likes.
Otherwise i just get from tnt, again, at sales as even tnt clothes are pricey enough when they come in new season.
as an example. I have just gone to tnt a few days ago while they have their end of summer sale, and done a bit of a shop for some summer shorts etc for paris for next year in size 5/6, bearing in mind she needs some stuff that looks nice but is able to be worn to school where it will probably be treated like daycare clothes are - that means they're gonna get dirty.
I got 5 pairs of shorts/cargo 3quarter pants, and 5 t-shirt type tops, for $41.82... I thought that was really good. I added up the tickets from their original prices, and the total came to $191. and something cents. I nearly fell off the chair. I would never in my life have paid $18 each for the tops, they weren't worth that, was very happy with getting them for $3 - $5 each
ooooh - i have found a new addiction though.
A new place called cotton-on kids has opened here, from what i know my MIL says it's a big store in Aussie, and i have found the cutest things there for the girls and most of them on sale lately too... The first time i walked up to the store it was with my mbig sister and mike and the girls and i took one look inside and said "oh dear, i could spend alot of money in here"

Oh yes forgot to give good old Trade Me a mention ...we haven't been to Dress Mart since WAY BEFORE I was preggy ...maybe I shall head that way before his 1st Bday - is it just all clothes stores? (can't remember fully) Any other shops along the lines of 'baby' or 'toy' type stores?
Onesies ...can you get them in size twos? I find them GREAT especially in winter as a singlet and in regards to keeping bubs back nice and warm...

When all the sales are on I buy stuff for the kids one year in advance and put them away. Don't think I've every bought anyting from PP or JK unless it was on sale.
Overall like JK's which I would buy for smart clothes but otherwise it is anything on sale. Boys selection at TnT is limited, have gone off Farmers and Warehouse and with Cotton on Kids they have some nice stuff but don't like it overall.
Shoes are the other thing that is getting me. Alex is 2 and his shoes are pretty cheap but Harry is 4 and has big feet and the price really increases when there feet get big. I also try to buy shoes a season in advance but that is a bit more risky. Got some shoes at the Warehouse of $2.50 (sandals) last year hoping I was ok size wise when summer came and they are perfect, Alex wears them all the time (whew).
The school that Harry is going to wears a uniform....that should hopefully help!

I love cotton on but muss say we only by from there on sales...but i do buy ahead!
M2L - love that papakura shop and puke one is my fave!!! Ella has the cuttest hawaiian bikini from there!
re JK - have to say i just bought Ella two gorg smock tops to go with jeans for winter ($9.99 each) and three of the tops like she was wearing in her photo shoot - i fell in love with them at the shoot - the stripey ones...soooo versatile! and only $9.99 each so def a good buy!
Grannie buys PP - we got heaps when she would go to Otaki all the time to outlets...and i usually only buy it in sales or outlets too...have bought ahead for next summer already.
HAving said that Melb shopping trip meant we bought heaps at target, big W etc and also at heaps of asian stores - hence her 13 pairs of jeans (all gorg embroided!)

We mostly get Daniels stuff from tnt. Whats the point in spurging out on something that is only going to last them a few months? At least with adult clothes they last a couple of seasons or more but with kids clothes I don't see the point in buying "quality stuff" because they aren't in t hem long enough to matter.
All Daniels tnt stuff is still going strong and haven't had any issues with the quality even though I mostly paid $3 per item for most of his stuff.

I went shopping for Kylah on thursday. I went to TnT and got her 2 hoodies, 2 tshirts, a pair of pants, and 2 tops for $40. I then went to pumpkim patch and almost choked on how much it cost me for 2 tops, 1 pair of pants and a pair of tights.. $140!!!!
Now i just buy all her PP jeans off TM. I also bought her a brand new jogger set for $40 that i had just got from PP for $60!

Stacey, I bought Oshkosh overalls for Jake when i was pregnant with Taine - they wash brilliantly and with a pick shirt under - could also be for girls. Stuff like that I'll buy quality, but more for future bubbas. Poor taine gets the hand-me-downs! oh well!
i hear you on shoes though! my jandals were $5, Jake's were $20! I am looking for some sneakers for him now. got the last ones for the bargain of $5 from Farmers during a clearance but they are looking pretty rugged now. It actually looks like I may be better getting him label ones - that can be passed on to Taine, rather than the ones at No.1 - which are still $25!

We buy all our clothing on sale. I just don't see the point paying full price when in a month or two it will be dirt cheap. Nearly all our clothes are label clothes and we've found over the years that if you can get good enough deals (outlet stores, end of season sales etc), its the same price if not cheaper than buying from cheaper places, and you get WAAAAAAAAY better quality.

I mostly get given stuff for lily, I buy very little. But when I do they usually come from baby factory.
Also PP do have a website with a specials area, that makes them a lot cheaper and anyone can buy form there - you don't need to be near an outlet store to get outlet prices.

we buy from t&t for Jack. he is in daycare full time so I don't see the point in spending a fortune. Went in the other day and got about 40 items for $120 which I thought was awesome. I also have to say, that I have never found anything I loved for him at JK or PP so don't even bother looking now.
Some of my favourite clothes for him are from the UK, my auntie is over there and sends stuff back for him, it is always gorgeous!

I think with girls though, they can do dresses and pants, and girls it is so much easier to do all that cuter stuff. Before I had jack I spent ages trying to find a gorgeous outfit to have for Jack to come home frm the hospital in, but couldn't find anything, but there was heaps of girls stuff.
As far as how much I would spend, Jack plays hard so even if he was home all the time, I wouldn't spend a lot as it would just get wrecked.

I refuse to pay those kind of prices for kids' clothes which are going to be well-worn but in such a short space of time! Sales and second-hand for us, and probably I am largely influenced by having the first two on student income. I was also astonished when I saw that PP kids' clothes are similar price to what I pay for my clothes - unreal!

I'm not a tight wad as such, I just can't justify spending that much money on some material that's probably worth less than $5 a metre LOL

Actually just thinking about clothes etc, lol, once I've sorted out Paris's winter wardrobe I'll finally be able to transfer all the stuff she doesn't fit to Ayja's wardrobe, then i can finally bring myself to get rid of the stuff that Ayja, amazingly, is finally growing out of. Her arms and legs are finally getting too long for all the size 0-1 stuff i got from tnt for her when she was 1, pretty good that it did her nearly 2 winters and is in great nick... pretty much all tnt stuff too.

We got Maya's winter wardrobe today from JK (well my parents did as her birthday present), they spent $180 and got three outfits - jeans, a long sleeve t and a tunic, cords, a long sleeve t and a swing top and leggings, a denim skirt and a top. We bought on the big side tho so she will get plenty of wear out of it, plus it can get handed down. I'd rather pay more $$$ to get better quality esp with three little ones to pass them down to. Oh and just coz I can

Yep I think they are, hence why I only buy in sales and when the kids only really really need new clothes now. I am so glad I have 2 boys so that Andrew's stuff has been handed down to Josh.
I only buy at PP and JK at the outlet store in Otaki and usually only when a sale is on. And in general they are reserved for Birthdays and Christmas.
I am also finding that Farmers is becoming quite expensive for kids clothes as well.
