Subject: Josh is in hospital...
Date Posted: 25 February 2008 at 2:02am

and I feel so bad for leaving him there but Andrew neded me at home as there is no room for him at my in laws.

Josh hasn't been well all day, it started with a snotty nose and lots of dribbling - to which we put down to change of weather and teething. He wanted to sleep all day which was fine by us. As the day wore on he didn't want to eat or drink and I noticed his face get slowly puffier, and he was gettting horse in his cry and his tongue was getting swollen as well.

About 9.30pm he did his first i'm going to stop breathing thing. I blew on his face and he cried and went on fine and then 10 minutes later he did it again. So I rang the in laws (they said to ring if I needed to take Josh to the hospital) and my FIL came over to look after Andrew.

Got to the hospital and the nurse took one look at him and the history I gave her she triaged him 2 and took him in straight away. We were put in a normal cubicle and then Josh did his holding his breath thing again and they didn't want to take any chances with him and moved him to a Resus cubicle. The dr there came in and had a look at him and did a few things and then went away to get the paed.

Paed dr came and saw him and she gave me a few opitions, keeping him in, me taking him home and seeing how he goes, me taking him home and bring him back in the morning (that was the option I was going for). She had another look down his throat and then decided that he was staying in as he needed to be observed in case he stops breathing again.

So he is now sound asleep in the childrens ward - I feel oh so guilty about leaving him there - and i'll go up and see him first thing in the morning after I drop Andrew off at pre school and let the nursery know he won't be in.

They know he has servere tonsilitis, but also think he has had a reaction to something , but I don't know what so maybe they will do some more testing.

Great start to the beginning of the semester for me. I'm just glad I don't have classes tomorrow.

He's still there, I just had to get out of there it was far to hot and I was falling asleep - which he has done now.

Just had a blood test done and we will get the results of that hopefully this afternoon and then fingers crossed he can come home tonight as I don't know what i'm going to do.

His tongue has gotten more purple and his voice is getting more horse the dr has told me a few things it could be and i'm not looking forward to the results.

We are back home. The diagnosis was ferbile confulsions from a viral throat infection. He bit his tongue during a confulsion hence the purple tongue. I have a pass to get back into the childrens ward if anything happens tonight but I am so hoping we don't need to use it.

He is going back next Monday to see the paed again to see if anything has happened.

He slept all of last night and so did I Emma . Just have to call the hospital this afternoon to let them know he is ok and then have the appointment next week to go to and then we should be fine. I have to watch when he has a high temp again and get it under control asap.

Yay!

My little sister used to get convulsions as a baby/toddler. I think she outgrew them after a few years though - it's quite common (not that it makes it any less scary).

I was told it was quite common after I told my mum she told me all the babies she knew that had them too and outgrew them. I'm hoping he never has one again thou.

Becks - both my older 2 has febil convoltions when a toddler - Brooke around 16months and Josh around 21 months. They are pretty scary aye. Brookes she breathed really funny like she was struggling to breath and her lips went blue. The drs was closed but lucky i knew where my dr lived and rushed over to his house screaming 'my baby is dying help me' Oh my what the neighbours would of thought! I had to give her mouth to mouth before I threw her in the car (didn't even tie her in) I can see the way she looked at me when she couldn't breath and all blued lipped.... so can imagine what you were going thru with your Josh... i am glad he is better now (well hopefully out of the woods) both my 2 never had another one - they do say it can run in the family - I had a couple as a toddler too. I am scared now Rhyley will have one. Thing is apart from being a bit sluggish and tired they didn't show 'sick' signs of being really sick...

Hugs to you and Josh - poor bubba
