How long approx would it take for HCG levels to get back to zero after an early miscarriage? Would 4 weeks usually be long enough?

My HCG was 1600 the day before the miscarriage and 300 less than 48 hours later so I presume that it would've got down to zero (or a very low number) quite quickly?

I had to have a follow up hCG level done as there was abnormal tissue found in the tissue collected after my d and c, I can't remember if it was 2 or 3 weeks after but it was back to 0 by then.

I felt back to normal 3 days after the heaviest bleeding and the bleeding itself was gone within 7 days.

All symptoms WERE gone but now, 27 days post miscarriage they are back with a vengeance. My bbs are ten times more sore than they were with the miscarried pregnancy and all my other common preggy symptoms are back.

When I had my first m/c, it took almost 7 weeks to go from 28 to 0 - I didn't have a D&C, but had an assisted m/c because it wouldn't happen naturally. My second m/c my levels were back to 0 within 2 weeks (was very early).

Have you done a POAS that is + but thinking it may be HCG left over from your m/c?

I dont know how long it took for my hcg to go down because i never had another test after the m/c was confirmed.

A friend of mine conceived twins immediately after her m/c (she'd had 3 m/c over 12 months).
After her last m/c she wasn't even trying as she wanted her body to recover, but was given some hpt, and being a testaholic, she tested a few days before she expected her a/f and got a positive!

So everyone is different. I have also heard that after a m/c your body is ready/primed for pregnancy so its very common to concieve before you'd even expect another a/f.

I suggest you get a check up.

I'd go in and get it checked up on also.

Fingers tentaively crossed for you.

HCG's can take some time to go back to normal (ie negative for pregnancy = less than 2). I would go and get your levels checked at least twice (2-3 days apart) to see whether they are rising or falling. To have some retained "products of conception" (horrible term) that's releasing HCG is generally not a good thing so would need to be excluded.

All the best.

My body returned to normal after the miscarriage..preggie symptoms went immediately, bleeding stopped promptly after 7 days + ovulation happened on day 13 so I doubt there are retained products from the miscarriage.

My hcg was 300 4 27 days ago so should be zero by now I think.

I second the two HCG tests thingee FionaS. I take it you've done a home test?

Posted By: FionaS
Date Posted: 25 February 2008 at 5:50pm
Yeah. I wasn't going to test but when I woke up today my bbs were so sore I could barely walk + over the weekend I had my classic preggie symptom of feeling sick when I drink water so I decided to test.   I had that with the miscarried pregnancy too but it stopped a couple of days before the miscarriage happened. Now that I realise there *could* be hcg from the miscarriage I wish I hadn't tested.

I don't want to do the hcg tests as I feel it adds to anxiety but I will just to be safe if my doc wants me to.

Just waiting for my doc to call to discuss it all. The nurse said it was unlikely that Id have hcg from the miscarrige since it dropped so quickly in less than 2 days a month ago.

Unlikely indeed, but not impossible. We've seen some pretty weird things with HCG's!

It is pretty unlikely given how quickly it fell. Pity you didn't have one 2 weeks ago - then you'd know for sure!

Date Posted: 25 February 2008 at 6:04pm
Umm I never had my hcg re tested, but I thought I might have been pregnant again about 4 weeks after my m/c but it was actually my period coming back.
But if you feel that you may be pregnant again(yay if ou are ) then I would pop to the doctors and get a test done to be sure.

I would go and get some bloods done - that way you can get a definite answer on the hcg level. I would think that it shouldn't be hcg from your m/c unless there was some retained tissue.

Good luck!!

So was the test a positive?

It is probably your period returning if you are feeling all the preggie symptoms, they are pretty similar. Mine came back right on time when I had an early m/c.

I'd go and ask for a repeat hcg test just to put your mind at ease - because if it is still higher than normal they are likely to want to see you just incase.

Probably shouldn't have said anything until 7 or 8 weeks when I [hopefully] get a scan that shows a heartbeat so will just lie low for a bit. I will feel so stupid if I end up losing this one after sharing the news so early again!!

We're not telling IRL friends for at least a few weeks.

5th Nov :) But not officially joining the nov thread until I feel ready to really embrace the pregnancy i.e. when I see a heartbeat!

This one feels heaps different from the last one...much more like my pregnancy with Elle. Already got seriously bad heartburn. Better not be twins!

I'm not keen on bloods as they add so much anxiety. My doc didn't feel it was necessary as hopefully the miscarriage was a one-off but I'm having 2 done then a scan at 6 weeks.

My first hcg was done at around 14 or 15 DPO and was 126. It was 21 at the same time with the pregnancy I miscarried. My symptoms are very strong so I'm feeling cautiously optimistic. I get my second blood results on Mon and then have a scan in 2 weeks time.

Yeap went to bed early. Unfortunately my lovely daughter was awake for hours chatting loudly with joy and rocking as usual so it was a broken night.

HCG was 126 at 4.30pm Wed and exactly 48 hours was 499!

Looking good for now at least! No more hcgs now...we are just waiting for the 6 week scan.
