I know! I couldn't believe that a KG of anchor cheese was nearly $14 at Countdown yesterday! And we go thru a KG of block cheese and 500g of grated cheese a week

We buy a block of butter a year and since I've been a good girl and not been pigging out on cheese like I did we haven't bought a block in over 2 months.. so I guess I don't notice the price rise lol

What do you use to go through a block a month? We usually end up biffing ours out because it's been around so long.

Yep it is mighty expensive now we go through a block of butter in about 2 weeks because I bake all our treats but it's starting to get cheaper to buy everything like that already made. We also go through a block of cheese a week we are big cheese eaters here so maybe we should try cut that done a little bit.

Argh I know!!! I just did my shopping now and was so very reluctant to pay $5 for 500g of butter
Its been hard cutting down on our cheese consumption too, we used to go through 1kg in a week too.

the big problem is that as places start using their powdered milk supplies and buying more - those prices will also sky rocket over the next few months - biscuits (may be cheaper to bake them afterall), bread...

It's starting to have a roll down affect as well. The bread I usually get on special was 3 for $5.00 and I haven't seen it like that for weeks, now the last special was 2 for $4.50 so I guess everything is going up.

One bonus of food allergies I suppose!! We dont buy either of those Bake with margarine instead of butter - all my stuff still turns out fine, and it is so much cheaper.

I'm kinda glad that the price of cheese has gone up as I recently stopped buying it because I was pigging out on the stuff but it's not fair on anyone else wanting to buy it.

I know, I complain about it all the time. We used to go through 1kg cheese every week or so, now the brand we used to buy in 1kg is only 800g for the same price! How rude! And they don't make a bigger size either!

Butter is about $4 for a block now, used to be on average $1.89.
I am not baking as much as usual because it's been too hot, but I imagine I will be when the weather gets cooler.

Toni I know! Every second month here, new world has so good on special 2 for $5, so we stock up then - but thats still $5 for 2 litres of milk. And we get a 4 pack of little yoghurts for just under $7 I guess that makes up for the price of cheese that others pay!

Most of the time I try and go for the specials, but holy moly even on special 1kg of cheese is at least $10. I work in the food industry and even wholesale we pay $3 at the very least for butter (and you should see how much we go through!).

Groceries on the whole have gone up, this time last year I was spending $120-$130 on the average shop, now I am spending $150 plus every shop.

Shaz - I used to buy the $5 for 3 loaves of bread, and it seem to (in one week) go from that to $4.50 for 2.

Its not only the dairy industry, its the transport costs of everything as well, among other things.
