Following on from the Doco thread just out of curiosity who woke thier baby for feeds and who let them sleep?
I woke them. in fact with kobe we had to wake him, guess all to do with the prem thing but at the start he just slept all the time we had heaps of trouble getting him to wake to feed and he would just sleep through feeds.
The 4 hour routine worked so well with him we just carried it on with addison although we were a little more relaxed.

I didn't watch the doco, but I woke Lauren every 3 hours as she had jaundice and would have slept for days on end!
She now sleeps through from 8pm till around 6am, so I am happy!

I'm sooooo jealous Bombshell! Lucas still wakes 1-3times per night for breastfeed! He won't nod off unless he has titty as well!
I've always left him to sleep for as long as he wants unless he is sick like BS mentioned above.

We had to wake Jack as he was jaundice and also wouldn't feed in the early days, so he was on 3 hourly. I don't wake him anymore though, he pretty much goes 3-4hours unless its a hot day and he wants more milk for thirst. Give him a dreamfeed at night and he sleeps right through till 4.30am at 7 weeks old! Not bad I reckon!

To begin with I had to wake Josh as he was a jaundice, but after that was sorted I let him wake himself.

Prem babies here too so was waking them every 3 hours for feeds. Aoife came home at 1.6kgs so her weight gain was important.
Also the neonatal unit run 3 hourly routines so we came home with routined babies.
And I think demand feeding twins would just be a recipe for disaster
We're at 4 hourly routine now as this gives me more time to rest and allows for extra time to top up the baby that's going through the growth spurt

I let Ollie wake when he was ready to feed. In saying that he was fine at birth (not prem, no jaundice etc), had great weight gains and fed regularly anyway so there was no need for it.

I let him sleep, but then he only ever fed 2-2.5 hourly of his own accord so I was definitely not gonna encourage feeding more frequently than that. On a couple of rare occasions when he has had a mammoth afternoon sleep I would wake him once it got to between 4-5 hours since his last feed. (but that probably only happened once or twice).
I would definitely be for having a routine and waking if I had twins though, demand feeding one is ok with two I think it would be impossible.

I was told to wake Charlotte every 3 hours, what a mission, she just wanted to sleep!
I will NOT do that with any more we may have. They do tend to come into their own reutine eventually.

McKayla the first week put herself into a 3 hour feeding schedule and 4 hourly at night. Then the second week she changed to 2 hours during day and still 4 hours during night. Then third week it was 4 hours during the day and 4 hours at night. She repeated this until six weeks and then at the seventh week it was 3 hours day and 4 hours night.
She never went over that but I will wake them up every 5 hours if I had a child that actually slept during the day. At night I wont wake up unless I feel they didnt have enough and worried about weight ect.
I demand fed and will do that with the next one as well.

I have routine fed both my girls. Pretty much 3 hourly during the day - I wake them - but leave them to it at night. Greer only wakes twice at night and I'm sure its cos she is getting lots of milk during the day so doesnt need it at night. Hannah was sleeping 12 hours by 10 weeks and I put that down to our routine as well.

Luke would feed every 2 - 2.5 hours he would wake for a feed. Sometimes if he didn't afer 3 -4 hours I would wake him. Depending on the day and how well his day was going.!!!
Mum2lucas i know what u mean Luke has woken at night to be BF. He used to sleep through from 3 months he used to do 6pm - 6am then that all changed at 5 months.
Now have got him into only waking 1 time usually at 4 or 5am. He now sleeps from 7pm to 4 am heaps better than waking up to 8 times a night to feed. Can u believe it !!!! Little monkey! But now we are on the right track, he's sleeping better and so is the whole household.

Sam had jaundice and born with very low blood sugars so we had to wake him for feeds. Now he goes to bed at 6.30pm, we still give him a quick feed at 10.30pm and then he sleeps till 7am at the earliest.

i dont wake...although EVERYONE tells me i should.. and he was getting more good nights than bad(where he would sleep 3 hours at a time) though we have had two bad ones so far but he is only 4 weeks..i will continue to just let him find his own routine until about 6-8 weeks then will see how we go... he sleeps anywhere from 2-4.5 hours during the day.. if i wake him(tried it twice) he sleeps much worse at night) babies..they are all so different!!!:(

I woke Caprece 3 hourly and she slept terribly.
Some babies are just bad sleepers no matter what you do.

I woke Hannah 3hrly during the day. At night let her sleep. She was a good sleeper as a baby. (Terrible as a toddler but that's another story!)

I let them sleep... I figure, if they require it great! and it gives me a chance to rest a little longer or finish a couple of small jobs. I demand feed the first 6 weeks or so, then stretch it out to a 3-4 hourly routine after that.

I woke all of mine three hourly. With Maya it worked brilliantly, she was a great sleeper and slept thru from 7 weeks.
With the gremlins it was a disaster, they had (and still have) high sleep needs, our Sleep Expert says that is prob due to them being a bit prem and having bad jaundice. If I'd left them during the day they would probably have slept 5+ hours, but I woke them ad as a result at night they would wake and scream for hours on end coz by the end of the day they were overtired and unsettled.
I plan to wake this bubs to feed every three hours but if it doesn't work for her will recognise the signs a lot sooner than I did with the gremlins!

Let him sleep as he liked, and demand fed him until about when he went onto solids. He was gaining tons of weight as a newbie, so there was no worries there.

Had to wake Lily 3 hourly as my milk supply took 10 days to come in and I needed her help to get it going. feed times were - 6am, 9, 12, 3, 6 9-10pm ish, then a wakeup around 2-3ish.
She never woke more than once a night till she got older and had the teeth issues etc, and now sleeps through no worries.

I fed Tom on demand bu wouldnt let him go any longer than 3hourly through the day. He was free to sleep as long as he liked at night. I have only just let him sleep as long as he likes during the day in the last month....no I would still wake him if he was going too long...well I "hint" at waking him...I start doing things in his room etc. WTF he just woke up?

I had to wake Keziah 3 hourly as she was really badly jaundice and would have slept the day away otherwise. Nowadays she can barely last 2.5 hours without the boobie so I'm thinking I might try formula starting next week to see if that improves

I just wanted to qualify why I started waking Hannah. I originally let her sleep, but then she would wake reeeally hungry, gulp down as much milk as fast as she could and get a really windy tummy. Then would be screaming for milk 1/2 an hour later I made sure to wake her so she wouldn't try to 'catch up' as it was driving me bonkers!!
Anyway, just to explain

I used to to wake up Gina 3 hourly during the day at the begining and let her sleep until she woke up at night. She got into that routine very quickly so I hardly ever had to wake her up - and I was relaxed and waited for 4 hours if need be to let her sleep.
ETA: she's been sleeping thru the night for ages unless she's not feeling well ie teething/colds
